Worth amplifying this point yet again. Please do NOT delete your #Twitter account. Even if you stop using it completely, please don't increase the risk of your user name being reused by someone else in the future. And I strongly recommend downloading all your Twitter data now, while Elon still permits it and the relevant systems are functioning. When I did this a number of days ago, it took ~48 hours from the time I made the request to being able to download the data. That's liable to get longer as more people request the data.
Go to your Twitter profile, then:
More->Settings and Support->Settings and privacy->Download an archive of your data
For now, I recommend using email verification and not text messages (SMS) to confirm the download request, since there have been reports of Twitter SMS failures lately, but it's up to you of course.
Why I'm now here. Let's see…
Can Mastodon be a reasonable Twitter substitute for journalists? https://nie.mn/3TW767N
politics (kinda), social media shenanigans (mostly), and a penguin in his underwear
Apologies for the link to another platform, but as I'm a huge fan of Berke Breathed and Bloom County, seeing a new strip in 2022 is like spotting a leprechaun riding a unicorn. Enjoy!

I see a lot of people migrating here & then not posting anything because they're waiting until that other site dies. Commit a bit. Post some things, interact, get to know what this place is about. You'll never know what it's like here unless you do. You might be surprised that maybe you don't need that other site. We need to commit to rejecting Musk's treatment of his employees, his interference in democracy, his moulding the world the way he wants. #twitter #twitterexodus #twittermigration
The profile notes feature on Mastodon is very useful but also perhaps slightly unclear if you've never used it before.
It works like this:
Go to a person's profile by clicking on their name, look for the "Note" section and then click on "Click to add note", start typing and it saves it automatically. The note is only visible to you.
This is really handy if you interact with lots of people and need to remember (for example) why you follow someone etc.

If you’re new to Mastodon, you may at some point find that you’re being pressured to put your posts behind a content warning (CW). Although CWs make sense for things like images of violence or nudity, some people are bullying others to put CWs on discussions of politics, racism, etc.
Please know that you should not feel pressured to obey these individuals. They do not speak for all. If someone does not want to be exposed to these topics, Mastodon gives them all the tools they need to avoid them, such as keyword filters and the ability to block or mute people who are posting things they don’t like.
I never posted an #introduction. OK here goes: I'm a late-career student in a M.S. Information Science program at UALR in Arkansas, USA. I have been a professional programmer, database admin, enterprise data architect, and electricity market monitor which blended #statistics, #economics, #energy business sense and #data skills. I enjoy nerdy things like #hamradio, I fix things, I'm a husband and father, I bake bread, and err on the side of love and acceptance.
Also people who can't leave for health insurance reasons, especially if they have an SO that would not otherwise be covered.
Agree with you that it's a huge cause for concern.
Greetings. Time for today's free streaming movie recommendation. Last time I pointed to Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980), which was essentially a space opera remake of 1960's "The Magnificent Seven" --itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Smaurai" (1954).
So today let's concentrate on the uber-classic "The Magnificent Seven" itself. A quintessential western of its period, with a great theme and score by Elmer Bernstein that is one of the most recognizable in all of film.
Starring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, and Horst Buchholz -- directed by John Sturges. As I mentioned with "Battle", Robert Vaughn (famous for playing Napoleon Solo in TV's "Man from U.N.C.L.E.") stars in both "Battle" and "Seven", playing very much a similar role!
The essential plot is similar across all three of the films -- a small band of mercenaries are hired to protect a town (or planet) from an evil warlord, bandits, or space pirates.
In "Seven" Eli Wallach plays the sleazy bandit leader with true style, and the other performances are equally memorable.
So, fire up the Chromecast with Google TV, or Roku or whatever, and watch "The Magnificent Seven" currently free on YouTube Movies (no ads with YouTube Premium). Enjoy!
If you ever wondered how Republicans became complicit in something that was rotten, toxic & dangerous but you won’t leave Twitter because of the time, followers and stature you’ve built up….now you know.
