Per @josephmenn Elon Musk personally ordered Twitter to ban antifascist researcher Chad Loder https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/01/04/mudge-finds-a-new-job/ As I reported, Loder's open-source investigations identified multiple Capitol rioters and were cited in a criminal complaint against a violent Proud Boy but the same work infuriated far-right activists Musk admires, Andy Ngo and Chaya Raichik https://theintercept.com/2021/11/10/proud-boys-antifascist-tweet-chad-loder-court/
Sometimes you just need something absolutely, positively awful and delicious to help along the day #JunkFood #Homemade #LoadedFries
I keep saying journalists should leave Twitter and use Mastodon, which is better for them in every way. At TechDirt I've posted a somewhat lengthy why-and-how: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/01/04/journalists-and-others-should-leave-twitter-heres-how-they-can-get-started/
We Dems should chill on the schadenfreude. The House #Speaker debacle is a very, very bad sign for the country.
What it tells us is that the people who are refusing to vote for #McCarthy are planning some deep, dark mischief. They want to maintain a capacity for monkeywrenching the government that's so awful and extreme, they don't trust even someone as spineless and compromised as McCarthy to play along.
Not even with #Trumps endorsement!
That points directly at the next budgetary / debt ceiling fight at the end of 2023. They want to use their power to dig in their heels, shut down the government, wreck our credit rating, and burn the country to the ground.
They don't want McCarthy, because they want to be sure that no vestige of institutionalism survives in Congress.
It means they have tipped their hand that they intend to use every procedural lever to commit absolute *legislative terrorism* in the 118th Congress. You can take that to the bank.
Nothing good will come of this.
From 1797, to 2017--from George Washington to Barack Obama--the peaceful transfer of power in the United States of America succeeded. That's 220 years, during which Chief executives of the United States stepped down voluntarily.
The idea that an outgoing president would make way for the duly elected incoming president was never in question.
Yes, there were shenanigans. And some would say the contested 1876 election was ratfucked to force the end of Reconstruction. Incoming Republican President Rutherford B. Hayes agreed to pull Federal troops out of the South, in exchange for the 20 electoral votes he needed to "win." And he got fewer votes than his opponent, Democrat Samuel Tilden--by a full 3 percentage points!
But until 2021, no President had ever attempted a full-fledged coup, by sending their supporters to the US Capitol to stop the electoral count and prevent an election from being certified.
We're not just in a 100 year anomaly right now. I keep hearing this ridculous narrative that "no Speaker of the House has failed on the first ballot since 1923."
So what? That has nothing to do with anything. There have been FIVE ballots so far, and we still have no #speakerofthehouse . That also means there's a break in the line of Presidential succession.
It's dangerously close to a Constitutional crisis.
The reason we don't have a Speaker, is because this is STILL a part of the ongoing #January6th coup, which had as its primary goal, a government takeover. 16 out of the 20 holdouts on this Speaker vote (excepting the ones elected in 2022) are members of what absolutely MUST be called the "2021 insurrection caucus."
These are all people who don't want our government to function or deliver benefits for the people of the United States.
A "peaceful transfer of power" isn't just about the Presidency. It means that the government continues to deliver results after an election, possibly with some reasonable changes in policy.
That's not what's going on here.
The failure to elect a House Speaker leaves the US without a functioning government at present. And that's by design. The insurrection caucus fully intends to shut this government down. And to hold the American people hostage to its radical (stated) designs to dismantle the government and render whatever's left unrecognizable.
The January 6 #coup is NOT over. And the #Constitution has failed us, because our founders never adequately foresaw a time when we'd face a fully radicalized enemy of our nation masquerading as a major political party.
Since I just moved servers here's another intro!
Hi, I'm Adrianna, a queer person from Singapore in San Francisco.
I love steel bikes, spicy food, senior pets. I am the director of product management for the City of San Francisco; this is my first public sector job after a career mainly in all kinds of startups.
I also used to make ice cream for a living, so my toots are hopefully delicious ones.
Where the far-left and far-right meet: the horseshoe model of the political spectrum.
It recognizes that when groups move to extreme positions, the practical results are that bigotry and totalitarianism of the far-left closely resembles that of the far-right.
The ideological point that they meet at also, as it happens, is also antisemitic

Let's resolve in 2023 to a) pass policies that penalize enormous suburban tanks like this, and b) mock the small dick energy of their owners at every opportunity.

Absolutely tragic that the size of our parking spaces aren’t keeping up with the size of our vehicles.

Andrew Tate. You know you want to laugh.
Remember that car collection he boasted about to Greta Thunberg? It’s been seized by Romanian police. It’s estimated to be worth over five million euros. A Buggati Chiron, a Rolls Royce, two Ferraris and a Porsche were among those seized, according to Romanian outlet Spy News.
Police ALSO seized a number of buildings including one where the brothers lived and allegedly held six young women, according to a local news report.
Another Black man falsely accused of a crime and arrested because of a bad facial recognition search. Fourth or so we know about; probably many more we don't. Arrested while driving to a family Thanksgiving and kept in jail for 7 days, even though he'd never been in the same state as the crime scene

The issue is that McCarthy isn’t a true believer in anything except his own power. So even though he’s made all of these concessions, there’s no way to trust that he’ll actually follow through on these whackadoodle plans. #thevotethatneverends
Ok this storm, a bomb cyclone x atmospheric river, has officially been called #piñacollider.
Too bad I'm doing dry January because
1. it's very wet outside
2. this would be a good time for a piña colada
Seems like the predicted big problems at #Twitter are materializing.
"The number of users in the leak is huge. Moreover, user emails are connected to their Twitter handles and names. Now available to any threat actor, this information will potentially lead to social engineering attacks and doxxing"

The world's oldest tree is a Great Basin bristlecone pine, growing in the Inyo National Forest in California. It is 4854 years old.
This tree germinated while the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt was flourishing, and predates most of written human history. It's older than the Olmec civilisation, older than the first Chinese writing, older than Stonehenge. By the time Sappho was writing her poems, it was already ancient.
