#AI in a nutshell

"AI has lots of problems:
(It is an environmental disaster.
It inflicts cruelty on clickworkers in the global south who vet its training data.)
* It turbocharges monopoly.
* It cloaks terrible bias in a false empiricism.
* It is wildly unreliable.
* It is a stock bubble and an enshittification accelerant, marketed as a means of replacing skilled workers with broken automation whose substandard goods we will have no choice but to consume."

:cnn: ‘Sir’ alert: This one word is a telltale sign Trump is being dishonest

It's pure coincidence that Elon Musk just happened to erase the entire record of how twitter was used to organize and share photos and video from Arab Spring, right?

I realize that people not used to quakes (e.g. visitors) can understandably go utterly ballistic for days after a quake like this. But for we natives -- and I've lived in L.A. my entire life -- if nothing is damaged and nothing even falls over it's really just a footnote that says "A gentle reminder."

Re-upping this again: I wish more lefties could internalize the idea that hypocrisy is not a meaningful accusation to the right. Of course they're being hypocrites. That you are bound, by rules, standards, logic, human decency, some fundamental moral consistency, anything at all, and they are not? That is their conception of what power is, and why they seek it. So they can exercise power, without constraint, and you cannot.

That's the whole point.

Hypocrisy is the virtue-signaling of fascism.

Sometimes think about the time I heard a Danish right-wing politician flat-out state, un-prompted, in a speech inside f**king parliament, that they were using anti-immigration as a platform for building the influence needed to relieve taxation & regulation on the rich - and not only didn't a single mainstream news channel ever say a single word about it, but neither, to my knowledge, did any other politician, including her opposition...

"It’s always us versus them at the megachurches. So many white American Christians, arguably the best defended human beings on planet Earth, have been brainwashed into thinking of themselves as one election away from facing lions in the Roman colosseum.

Guns are practically sacramental in this worldview."

On August 20, 2023: Temperatures at the North Pole have been above zero for more than a day, a further indication that the latent heat tipping point has been reached and that no more heat can be consumed by sea ice melting.

How much things have changed. The restaurant where I work has been there since 1967 and I have the 1967 lunch menu.

Back then I could have walked in, had lunch, a sandwich on Italian bread with lettuce and tomato. To pay I'd leave two quarters on the table, which covered lunch and a 20 percent tip.

Welp, looks like WeatherBug went belly-up. Too much traffic out of So. Cal. I suppose.

It's always disturbing when this kind of thing happens. Services like WeatherBug crap out just when you most need them. Hahaha. I guess that's ironic.
