This piece by @brianklaas is very good. Musk has always struck me as a fraud, but it's easier to spot when you’ve been in showbiz your whole life.

If you want to stop AI from hurting artists, don't try to persuade people not to use it. Instead teach boomers how to make Minion memes with it. Nothing will kill the AI vibe faster than Carol in accounts receivable thinking it's cool

A front page article on the Washington Post telling people how to get started with Mastodon?

That’s a big deal.

Hey folks, introduction. Long time microtonalist, just intonation is my thing. Minimalism is my path again. Music on Bandcamp now, old videos on youTube.

I used to play guitar, broke my elbows in 2009. I finally gave up on gtr a few years ago., but use VST to make music now. Pianoteq & Surge help in the tuning dept.

So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

Hey hey #Quantum Mastodon,

Welcome again to all who joined upto and after the n^th #twittermigration.

Here is another pointer to the 229 Quantum Tooters here on Mastodon that you can directly import as your following list with a few clicks. https://cutt.ly/6MnBTJ3

This list is obviously incomplete and still growing. So please do let me know if there are to be any additions.

Happy Tooting! 😄

Reminder that my deep learning course at the University of Geneva is entirely available on-line. 1000+ slides, ~20h of screen-casts.

November 25, 2022:

In this conversation James Dolan continued relating the moduli stack of elliptic curves to the moduli stack of acute (including right) triangles.

He showed how to get from such a triangle to a tetrahedron with four copies of that triangle as faces, and then from that to an elliptic curve that's a branched double cover of the Riemann sphere, with the tetrahedron's four corners as branch points.

Reposting given so many new folks are joining #Mastodon today:

Welcome! You’re going to like the #fediverse.

- Start with an #introduction about yourself & say hello 👋

- Share content you’re passionate about to meet others with similar interests. Hashtags will help you find them faster.

- With a few exceptions (just block them) this is a pretty friendly place.

- Be patient as instance hosts adjust to the #TwitterMigration.

I’m glad you’re here.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

It wasn’t just Trump. The Meadows texts, by @joshtpm and his team.

“They show Meadows and other high-level Trump allies reveling in wild conspiracy theories, violent rhetoric, and crackpot legal strategies for refusing to certify Joe Biden’s victory. They expose the previously unknown roles of some members of Congress, local politicians, activists and others in the plot to overturn the election.”

Rick Scott told CNN that the reason Hershel Walker lost is because the Republicans don’t have an agenda.

Americans know the #GOP does, in fact, have an agenda, which is to make women vassals, eliminate Social Security, promote racism, extol radical Christianity, and overturn any elections they happen to disagree with.

Probably also worth noting:

My dear twitter refugees,

As you are grieving the communities you are leaving behind, please remember Musk bought a platform, not a community.

YOU built the communities, and you will build them again.
