what if instead of being evil eugenicists we just paid people not to have excesses of children

@icedquinn Most models are predicting a shortage of kids in the US and similar things seem to happen when developing countries start educating women.

@swiley letting women work has had.. complicated ramifications.

@icedquinn The alternative is sufficiently unpleasant and women tend to like the empowerment.

@swiley medicine has nonfactored the old concern of spending scarce education resources on educating someone who will probably die giving childbirth, but we have other problems now.

pair bonding largely isn't happening, for one. and women have the unique problem that putting off birthing to satisfy corpo demands has a much harder time limit than when men do it.
@swiley we can buffer the existential crisis that is a negative birth rate, for a time, kind of. non-bonded women *tend* towards heavy depression in later age and younger men *tend* towards violent uprisings in these conditions.

@icedquinn The solution to this is better social mobility which is where the US is failing now (especially for men.)

@icedquinn @swiley

nothing correlates more with birthrates plumetting everywhere than this lol
@orekix i'm not against the thesis (women working) but there are other existential crises that then need to be addressed in other ways. @swiley
@icedquinn @swiley

dunno man, worked for grandpa and grandma but now there are so many more issues, maybe we should have just listened
@orekix @swiley my pet peeve with this has been the systematic destruction of opportunities to pair bond.

there is no free time (everything is 80 hour work weeks, mandatory overtime) to meet outside school or $job.

and every venue has incrementally said it's inappropriate to flirt in that venue.

so when the fuck are you supposed to do it
@orekix @swiley since corpos demand 24/7 attention, and now women are also doing corpo shit, when does anything that isn't corporate obedience happen? :blobcatdunno:

@icedquinn @orekix The obvious solution is to not give "corpos" 24/7 attention and reject situations that would make avoiding this harder.

@swiley @orekix if you can find a way to get the american public to tell their bosses they're not working >40 hour weeks, and not get fired, let me know.
@icedquinn @swiley

maybe we should let urbanite subhumans go extinct and move to smaller villages and the countryside

@icedquinn @orekix idk if you're tactful about it and take care of yourself they don't seem to mind. I wouldn't flirt with coworkers but I dated the girl I studied calculus with in college and she was an uber feminist.

@swiley @orekix when i was in college you couldn't even talk to people. everyone was just there to phone in minimum effort to transfer out to another school. in between their day jobs.

@icedquinn @orekix Yeah I spent my whole life home schooled in a really rural area and felt like college was my last big chance to socialize before going off to work so I put a ton of effort into it.
It's definitely doable and I *feel* like it should be doable afterwards but haven't quite figured that out yet.

@swiley @orekix prior to the latest round of davos bullshit, the answer to this was going to conferences and meetup.com
