“What we’re doing to poor kids is a disgrace,” he said. “These poor kids are not in school. They will never recover from this. … The virtual classes are a joke. It is worse than a joke. Poor people don’t have iPads. They don’t have WiFi, [and] they don’t have somebody at home to sit during the day and force the child to pay attention. And without that, the virtual learning just does not exist.”

if you have to “force the kids to pay attention” your education has utterly failed. consider re-evaluating life choices or staircasing yourself.

@icedquinn My parents didn't force me to pay attention when they homeschooled me, they dumped the books on my desk and said "do this."

@swiley my homeschooling before kindergarden was great. when we returned to it after some years of failed schooling they did the same. except it was "here's the book now you'll be punished if you don't pass the chapter tests."

there's a reason i almost killed one and am ambivalent to the other.
@swiley what i actually wanted/needed was a tutor because in all of the school staff salivating over having me registered as a retard autist to get free cash from the gubbmint, nobody bothered to actually check if some limited amount of tutoring in troubled subjects would help better than just stacking more fear and punishment.

unsurprisingly more fear and punishment didn't accomplish anything but costing everyone a shitload more in enforcement.

@icedquinn Yeah, from what I've read most kids just need more attention from their parents/teachers.
