@popolon @yogthos@mastodon.social @clacke I'd be a little more willing to believe some of this stuff if journalists and reporters were allowed into the country and if the government didn't manipulate social media and the internet the way it does. Right now I just have to take your/the government's word for it and that's not great. I would feel the exact same way if the US or any of its allies did this.
@popolon @yogthos@mastodon.social @clacke I'm unaware of speech against trump being censored. Even NPR: the public radio here was talking about him "eating crayons." No one was fired and they still get government money. France has a lot of issues and I never said they didn't, but they are allowing reporters in.
@popolon @clacke @yogthos@mastodon.social My french is only slightly better than my Chinese so I can barely understand what they're saying. But show me a journalist in any language from a free country saying that the Chinese government isn't committing genocide against the ughar people then.
And I absolutely agree with you: the behavior of the US against the rest of the world is unacceptable. I don't agree with half of what our government does and often vote against politicians known to perpetuate violence.
@popolon @clacke @yogthos@mastodon.social I know the US has made propaganda in the past, some of it has been serious and used cover up atrocities. It would be good if you could convince me that's happening here because what I've heard about China is absolutely horrific and I would really like to know that it's not real.
Unfortunately they have exhibited the common patterns of an extremely authoritarian government trying to cover up violence. It's hard to trust things when they work so hard to manipulate people and hide things.
@popolon @clacke @yogthos@mastodon.social Yes, I feel that way too. The US has done a lot to further terrorism in Asia. I think that in addition to this the Chinese government is committing genocide against it's people and imprisoning and maiming people for disagreeing with the government. I haven't seen *anything* to make me think this isn't the case.
@popolon @clacke @yogthos@mastodon.social Do the statistics come from the Chinese government? This wouldn't be the first time they've faked data. I had a professor who was an ex-patriot of China and would talk at length about this.
That there are buildings says nothing about the people. I could build a temple in Virginia today and that would change nothing about who lives there.
