average linux experience

can play videos on tv with cool interface

based

can’t just turn the TV on though because if you start X without an HDMI client it won’t ever start the display and you have to reboot to get the interface up

cringe

re: average linux experience

@swiley i just turned the TV on and i had to kill and restart X remotely to get kodi up. and when i turned on X without the TV active it didn't work when i turned the TV on, until i reset it *while the TV was on.*

also my desktop (much newer computer) worked with HDMI but since i changed to a displayport monitor X will 'forget' there is a monitor there and won't use it if its turned off too long. have to restart X while the monitor is alive to fix.

but that's the cost of freedom i guess.

re: average linux experience

@purple @swiley i remember getting something like sway to boot, but things were very slow. i think it was running everything under opengl emulation since i remember being able to start kitty term but it ran like molasses. i booted back over to X and i can at least use these old junkers for a while longer.

re: average linux experience

@purple @swiley what i don't understand is how we can't just get a monitor to work when we plug it in to a port. why do we have to do any of this bullshit?
