@icedquinn One of my exs switched to a trackball because she did a lot of CAD and it really helped her wrist.
In an effort to promote the use of open and FOSS platforms rather than proprietary and locked down ones, as postmarketOS we created our own community on Lemmy!
Please join us in making it an awesome FOSS and federated alternative to our subreddit!
Police use face recognition, drones, automated license plate readers, and an arsenal of other invasive tech. Atlas of Surveillance is a searchable map containing thousands of datapoints that allows you to see what is deployed in your area. https://www.atlasofsurveillance.org
Why are people using Facebook to access government, health, and other information‽ A web company messing up should not be an issue national governments have to be concerned about… https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/feb/18/facebook-blocks-health-departments-charities-and-its-own-pages-in-botched-australia-news-ban
@directhex The reason there are less of these in FOSS is because they're constantly trying to run stuff on other architectures. It's pretty awesome how effective just trying to port something you've written teaches you not to abuse C.
> It seems [the Police] think playing copyrighted and licensed music will keep the word from getting out. And turns out.. they are right! I sent this video to multiple news agencies who covered the story. Most said they can’t share it... why??? Because it’s playing Beatles music.

I have seen links that go avia tracers rather than directly to the proper target, are we talking about individual pixels here or is this the url behind the normal links (which are pictures)

The decision of LastPass shows us why is relevant the difference between using open source software and free (of charge) software.
BREAKING: Through public records requests, EFF has uncovered documented proof that the LAPD requested and received Ring doorbell camera footage of last summer’s Black-led protests against police violence.

Today is the tenth anniversary of #GNU #Guile 2.0! 🎉
https://gnu.org/software/guile/news/gnu-guile-200-released.html
It was the first milestone towards an implementation that would actually allow you to write all your application in #Scheme. Lots of good memories, personally. And it’s humbling to see just how much has been achieved since then!
@icedquinn Anything that might allow malware to get in the way of showing you ads will eventually be removed from Android.
@fedops As a user: certificate pinning is pretty annoying because sometimes I *would* like to MITM poorly behaved apps.
Your Smartphone Doesn't Have To Be Glued Shut!
The #librem5 was recently featured in a hardware tear-down video by @iFixit
@freemo Cross compiling to OSX from Linux!? I thought this was impossible!
@icedquinn My brother isn't a computer guy but he ran Ubuntu for at least a year during law school because he just got so fed up with OSX.
It's not like it's really hard anymore.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
