Day eight of the BBC Micro advent calendar: it's Sophie Wilson! She created the BBC BASIC language, the operating system and much of the system architecture for the Beeb while working at Acorn. Sophie was awarded a CBE in 2019 for her pioneering work.

@prywatnik @steelman @rysiek Przy czym nazwijmy pewne rzeczy po imieniu. Mamy dwa różne poziomy kradzieży tożsamości.
Jeden poziom to podszycie się pod tożsamość "cyfrową" (w cudzysłowiu, bo to nie najlepsze określenie, ale niech już zostanie). Istnieją (istniały?) banki, które umożliwiały wzięcie pożyczki weryfikując dane kredytobiorcy przelewem. Co prawda nie mam na to danych, bo nie siedzę w temacie, ale spodziewam się, że większość wyłudzeń kredytów na skradzioną tożsamość dotyczy właśnie tego schematu. I to jest ewidentnie problem kiepskich procedur bankowych spowodowanych cięciem kosztów. Obsługa kredytobiorcy w okienku kosztuje znacznie więcej, niż wykonanie automatycznego zapytania do BIKu, przepuszczenia go przez algorytm i poczekania na przelew weryfikacyjny.

Z drugiej strony mamy pełnoskalową kradzież tożsamości, z podro... znaczy się, z kolekcjonerskim dowodem osobistym i fizyczną obecnością w oddziale banku w celu weryfikacji tożsamości. Jeżeli oszust ma warunki, żeby podążać tą ścieżką, odblokowanie PESELu w rejestrze nie będzie dla niego żadnym problemem.

Czyli znów. Tworzymy kiepskie obejście na kiepskie procedury i przerzucamy odpowiedzialność na klienta, tylko po to, żeby bank uniknął kosztów wdrożenia procedury rzetelnego sprawdzania tożsamości kredytobiorcy. Wszelkie zmiany powinny iść w kierunku zmiany procedur bankowych.

It's that time of the year where I teach our 1st year #DataScience students about data *in the wild*

I don't tend to photograph the #forest at the #goldenhour - particularly when the sun is strong.

That doesn't mean I am not out looking for images at this time of day; it's just that direct sunlight usually adds unwanted complexity to most scenes. The woods are full of chaos & need to be simplified.

Below are some images where the strong golden light did add something extra.

Washington DC voted to make its bus system fare-free, starting July 1. This is big...the first major city to make their bus service completely free, and hopefully will serve as an example to other bus services around the nation. This makes the busses available not only to the middle class but also to the very poor who can't afford transit...in other words, greater equity. (Yes, this is me in my transit advocacy mode.) #transit #bus #PublicTransit
