The sheer number of people I know posting that they now have #COVID19 after various holiday celebrations is both mind-blowing and completely predictable. One thing this #pandemic isn't, is over. MASK UP, KIDS! #health #MaskUp

Making circuits in ASCII is oddly therapeutic

Not sure if this sketch of a two wire data and power setup would actually work with real components, but it was fun to do either way

Josephine the snowshoe hare isn't a big fan of the mild temperatures. She's been on this snow bank for over an hour. I figure it's too wet in her usual hangout.

Who called it "malloc()" and not "see_you_later_allocator()" ?

Two new species of tardigrades, Mesobiotus diegoi and Mesobiotus maklowiczi, were discovered by Daniel Stec, a biologist from Kraków, Poland. Anyone who discovers a new species gets to name it. M. diegoi was named after Daniel's collaborator, Diego Fontaneti. M. maklowiczi was named after a guy he often sees doing shopping in Stary Kleparz, Kraków's most famous street market. Robert Makłowicz is a historian and a food celebrity, and a very nice person. researchgate.net/publication/3

I love watching the fog in our back woods as the temperatures rise following the blizzard #michigan #standish

Reminder that when feeding hungry people is a crime, your society has failed

I’m sitting in ‘Salisbury House’ a #winnipeg institution. An old school diner. Behind me on the other side of the room is a coffee clutch of locals, all my age, whining about the demise of plastic straws and the horrors of paper straws. I look at them and realize that they, like me, didn’t see a plastic straw until after high school. At least they’re entertaining.

Ontario judge dismisses 'puzzling' $1M libel action by anti-vaxx nurses

Cool soundbites about #genetics typically confuse more than they clarify. Consider this often-quoted pearl of wisdom: “You share 98.8% of your #genes with a #chimpanzee!” Is this true? What does it actually mean? Here's another statement you may have heard: “Identical #twins share 100% of their genes, but non-identical twins share 50%, just like regular siblings.” So, I share more genes with a chimpanzee than with my own sister? Let's solve this conundrum in a #thread all about sharing...1/6

My three chosen pictures from #SeeingAuschwitzLondon - we are all humans but at the same time capable of systematic atrocities which are hard to comprehend. ‘Please don’t ever forget’. @auschwitzmuseum

This is an excellent 4-lane to 2-lane road diet in Kendall Square #massachusetts.

This street is 1,000 times more pleasant to walk across than the 4-lane speedway that was here previously.

4-lane roads with no medians (or anything else that results in a crossing distance of >45 feet) should be illegal in #cities. Pedestrian fatalities map closely to crossing distance. 4-lane roads divide neighborhoods, induce driving, and reduce #walkability.

I'm trying to figure out what I mean here -- though I'm pretty sure it's right -- about living around memories literally set in stone. Especially when it's about it be a new year. lastwordonnothing.com/2022/12/
