In 2020 I set a goal to read 12 books. I read 6.

In 2021 I set a goal to read 12 books. I read 20.

In 2022 I set a goal to read 24 books. I read 40.

I'm seeing a pattern here and I love it.

If you don't have a cargo bike you might wonder how much they might actually get used. Are they worth it?

I got my first cargo bike almost 15 years ago and I think it's safe to say it's been life-changing. That first Saturday, my wife and I took it dancing, took it shopping, took it to the dump, the grocery, to a friend's house. Finding half a dozen uses for a cargo bike was an easy thing to do.

THIS IS A BABY EEL. Many eels live in the open ocean when young & are barely recognizable (this may be a conger eel). They're at the mercy of the currents, never sure what will happen. Their lives are mysterious, perilous, & beautiful.

Thrilled that wonderful #NoreenRiols, one of the last female members of the #SpecialOperationsExecutive SOE French Section, has today received an #MBE. She has dedicated it to her fallen comrades, as I remember her dedicating all her talks.
Her story is told in her memoir #TheMinistryofAgandFish. Congratulations Noreen!

Did you know that Bing maps often offer a much better resolution than Google maps, especially for more remote locations? Here is a comparison for Big River in Newfoundland.

One of the biggest myths out there about volcanoes on Earth is that, for some reason, #eruptions are increasing. They're not! In fact, the number of erupting #volcanoes each year is remarkably steady. If anyone ever tells you otherwise, point them this way:

The NYT had to change the first line from “She made a mean beef stroganoff…” to “She was a brilliant rocket scientist…”

This power pole is fifty or sixty years old. Made of reinforced concrete, it holds up the wires that bring electric power to our house. If it fails it will be replaced by a plastic pole, and I have no idea how long it would last. Guess we have to go completely off-grid.

Bruno, guardian of the snow. He'll be very unhappy when it all disappears. Very little snow is left now near our place, but there are still some larger patches at southern edges of meadows, where tree shade protects it a bit from the sun.
