That's a nice OS you've got running on Someone Else's Computer.
A shame if something happened to it.
Have you thought about backing up your data?
To Someone Else's slightly different Computer.
You want dark mode? That's an extra £1/month.
Oh, you've violated one of our policies. Sorry. No computing for you.
"Even outside the cities, light pollution affects at least half the country's land mass, meaning rural areas are brighter, too. The issue is bigger than our relationship to nature. Research shows that small amounts of artificial light can harm our ecosystem and, possibly, our health.
"But it's not too late to change it. A small but growing number of Minnesotans are revving up efforts to protect the night sky's purity."
The road was dry for a couple of days but now it's back to the way #IdąPsięta like it the most.
I guess I should start writing down things I've learned over the past few years running a local #RuralBroadband ISP business. Some of them concern particular technologies used right now and will be obsolete in a few years or weeks. But some things never change.
In the past few hot days we've had one router and two ODU power supply failures. The lesson: never put home-grade electronics in the attics of poorly insulated houses without air-conditioning. Fortunately the rains came and it's colder now. How I waited for those wonderful thunderstorms. Oh, wait.
Economics: Humans only value things monetarily.
Sociology: Uh, I don't ...
Economics: Humans are always rational and value is calculated by a complex inner calculus.
Sociology: Uh, Psy, can you help?
Psychology: That's not how humans ...
Economics: ALSO MY SYSTEM WILL GROW EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER!!
Physics: *drops teacup*
I think one of the biggest pieces people miss when thinking about threat modeling is believing that it will be static. For certain people in vulnerable situations, your threat model can go from uneventful to extreme threat very easily.
Think, children. As a person who grew up with abuse, I really wish I had tools like E2EE apps or some sort of secure communication with a trusted adult.
Just in case you'd not see the thread on twitter...

When you listen to The Verge's podcast and they're legitimately saying Mastodon is a "no girls allowed" club? And we don't want Facebook here because Instagram will bring women here?!
What the fuck is wrong with these American tech pundits? Mastodon is the gayest, transest, most feminine social network I've ever seen. There are so many more outspoken, smart, odd, and downright weird women here than I've ever seen on any other social network. It's fucking great.
Istotnym prawem alchemii jest zasada równej wymiany. Kiedy biorę z szafy świeżego T-shirta, szafa w zamian bierze kota.
If I were to upoload my mind, it would be immediately taken down by hundreds of DMCA violation notices.
In 100,000 years an alien ship enters our solar system. The earth has no remarkable intelligent life, but it's a beautiful biodiverse planet recovering from some bad extinctions. The aliens don't notice the traces left by humanity right away, this is just a survey trip and not much monumental remains.
But, they do pick up a signal, coming not from Earth, but from Mars. "How strange?" they think. Mars is obviously the inferior planet for life. Earth is incredible. But they go to investigate. 1/
Living in the #wetlands of #Polesia (also spelled #Polesie) in #EasternPoland. Surrounded by #bogs and #forests, trying not to fuck up surrounding nature too much.
Taking care of a small pack of #dogs – #IdąPsięta.
Luddite working with hi-tech.
#RuralBroadband provider by accident. Starting a small LoRaWAN project to monitor our wetlands. Coding in #Python. Dealing with dirty data, cleaning them when time allows.
#Atheist. I don't *believe* in #science – science is the *only* thing that protects us from belief.
Fuck nazis.
