if you use Linux on your personal computer: what do you like about it?

I used to be super into customizing my window manager, but now I mostly like that it's so easy to install software, and that the environment is the same as on a Linux server

(please no arguing about whether people "should" use Linux on their personal computers, I'm just curious about why you personally like it)

Getting denied flat rental contracts because I’m Polish is not fun, I’ll tell you that.

#SkinCancer survivor here reminding you to wear #sunscreen. On the other hand, maybe you are someone who enjoys having part of your face cut off.

Good news - the scar is almost invisible and it was years ago with no (so far) recurrence.

80 years ago today, Willem Arondeus was executed by Nazis after he bravely bombed a building to destroy 800,000 identity cards.

He was an openly-gay Dutch artist who forged documents for Jewish people.

His last words were "Tell people that homosexuals are not cowards."

I have often wondered why Putin's attack on #Ukraine angers me so deeply.

Walking on the beaches of Lillebælt, I realized it is because of this:

To this day, we Danes still see the concrete fortifications left by the Nazis on our shores, because 1 fascist leader got the insane idea, he had the right to topple our democracy.

He had no right. All he had was a delusional idea of somehow being supreme to everyone else.

We stopped the fascist in 1945.

We will stop the fascist now.

That reminds me of my secondary school chemistry class, in which we grew copper sulphate crystals.

Mine was about 4 cm long. I took it home.

My sister thought it was a pretty rock, and it would look nice in my fish tank.

Neither the crystal nor the fish lasted very long.

We are currently producing 13.5KW with our solar panels in the midst of an hurricane!

Well, at least we’re sure the servers for #MastodonDE are, and will always be, 100% green!

With the melt season well advanced, the #SeaIce + #IceMelange is starting to break up - our measurement buoys will soon be on their journey to the open water again.
Time to organise the rescue mission!

But yes, let's allow more drilling. Oh, and forget about wetlands.

@jrossibarra I always find it amusing. They like to bring up their "fishmato" made up fearmongering and yet every organism that exists has foreign DNA in its genome from horizontal gene transfers at some point.

Heck, the entire process of grafting results in gene transfer between the two organisms.

An honestly ridiculous amount of the genome of red algae is made up of bacterial plasmids it took up from the environment and incorporated.

@ronpar @jrossibarra When it comes to the organic label, they're also totally fine with making the loopholes themselves if it benefits them.

Like how copper sulfate as a fungicide is an exception in the organic label rules because it's so essential for dealing with fungal pathogens, despite basically all copper sulfate formulations requiring synthesis in a lab.
