Totally nuts!:

85% majority black Alabama town.

All prior mayors white. No elections in decades, position "inherited."

Patrick Braxton decides to run for mayor in 2020. Approaches current mayor, who lies to him about qualification process.

Braxton successfully navigates the correct qualification process nonetheless.

Nobody else bothers to qualify. Braxton elected as mayor.

County judge says: no one bothered to qualify/ be elected to town council positions either, he may appoint his own council.

Weeks after the election, current mayor and council meet in secret, no notice of the meeting published, declare a special election, no notice of that either, and effectively reappoint themselves to their current positions.

Then they release a statement admitting "that Plaintiff Patrick Braxton is Black and is the former Mayor of the Town of Newbern."

!!!???

Now a matter of a federal civil rights lawsuit.

Mindboggling.

It turns out I was wrong. This might be one of the lichens that is very resistant to pollution. Nevertheless, we know from other sources that the air here *is* clean :)

A nice patch of on a roof of a house where we had a installation a few days ago. Good to see that the air here is clean – lichens are usually a good indicator of air quality.

While on my way around town with the bike because of some business related errands I came across this view.

Workers on a small drilling platform on "#Mühlenteich" are still probing the ground of the lake.

A bridge built during GDR-times, which forms one of the few roads into the town #centre of #Wismar (which historically was an #island in between Baltic Sea, wetlands, lakes and inlets and will be an island again in the future because of rising sea levels) has to be replaced in due time.

So looking at the 'x.com' domain, it's a non-HTTPs (and of course no-HSTS) 302 redirect to twitter.com. Did the God Emperor create the worlds largest phishing MITM exploit vector?

Given the way the gender coding of pink vs. blue got inverted between 1820 and 1920, a regency era time traveller visiting 2023 would be struck by how aggressively masculine Barbie World is.

W domu go lżą przed kolegami, mi policjantka zapowiada, że

There are 83 of these "EIRE sign" sites around the Irish coast (many of them much less visible than this example, which was rediscovered and restored in 2017-2019). They were created during World War Two to make pilots aware that they were overflying a neutral country.

The screenshot shows how this one looks in OSM. There has been some creative tagging to get the letters to display (a wall of height zero requires a bit of mental gymnastics), but nobody can say it is not "on the ground".

Coming to Mastodon from Twitter feels like busting in the door loudly brandishing a half drunk bottle of tequila and finding everyone sitting in horrified silence holding cups of tea and academic papers

Walking back to the truck in the parking lot, I spotted this #Killdeer that had just landed at the edge of the sidewalk. I was able to get a few shots before it sat on the ground and exhibited a broken-wing distraction display....which they do when a nest is threatened. At that point, I walked away knowing there must have been a nest nearby.
