These women are travelling through rural N.S. fixing bikes and breaking stereotypes

Simone Mutabazi and her team are travelling across the province this summer fixing bicycles free of charge in rural areas where repair shops are hard to access.

@8bitpal I love this challenge! During the worst days of the crisis, when food was very limited and sourced almost exclusively from our farm and neighbors, it was amazing the things we'd come up with. We learned to prepare green bananas in what seemed like a thousand ways, and everything had yogurt or cottage cheese. Luckily there was usually lard and some kind of pork for flavor, eggs, and whatever came out of the kitchen garden. We never went hungry and have never been as healthy since.

Have you ever compiled code on a plane, train, or boat?

@johnmcquaid @pluralistic Looking at this with my lawyer hat on (I'm also a computer techie and Tesla owner): If a user modifies the embedded code in a vehicle the question of product liability gets extremely muddy.

Should a user change to "factory" code excuse all liability of the maker for flaws? If not, how do we find the boundaries of user vs manufacturer liability? (And are are arts of computer science up to the task of discerning a reasonable line?)

I agree that Tesla's user interface code sucks beyond belief. (I don't think the programmers even know how to drive or know about anything other than iPhone style interfaces.)

But on broad social concerns I would value having injured people have clear legal paths for redress above allowing a few to modify their vehicle code. It's a difficult balance.

BTW, my father, a TV repair guy, sued Sony in '80s over right to repair (and won).

@szescstopni And this is damn good ballad. The line about ”new children” always gives me creeps.

I'm not super smart.
I just tried to fix a USB problem on my server by unbinding the USB drivers.

Guess how I was typing in these commands?

I mean really?!? "They keep on shoving that gay shit down our throat"

Do you know how much media i watched with cishet relationships in abundance, and i still turned out queer?

But we're the ones that are shoving representation down people's throats? No. Instead, that representation is well overdue and fuck you if you think EVERYTHING should be Cishet

This week, I went over to Bluesky and asked people who'd left Mastodon why they left, and lots of people told me. I grabbed the replies and crunched them and wrote up a summary. I think it's really interesting and often kind of wrenching.
