@ericmacknight Hi, Eric. Enjoy my babbling.
I'm looking to collect as many origin stories of women working in software design (UX, IXD, UI, User Research, UX writing) as possible for my website Women of IXD. This is a multi-year crusade to write women back into the history of technology (through the lens of design). This is a companion to the book. What's your story? What challenges have you faced? What successes do you want to share with the world? https://womenofixd.com/whats-your-origin-story
Definitely do not go to these websites to get free study books. Also, don't go to https://12ft.io/ to unlock paywalls.

Five years ago I looked at the pay wall economy… the big change since then is that subscription prices have gone up well ahead of inflation.
"Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor; and if one is a member of a captive population, economically speaking, one's feet have simply been placed on the treadmill forever."- James Baldwin; Fifth Avenue, Uptown #bookquotes
It is obscene that the BC NDP is still behind cutting old-growth forests and arresting the people trying to stop them. #environment #climate #politics
Hard to understand why so many people spend their energy doing free PR work for a virus.
The French government is working on a law that would require web browsers to block websites in the browsers themselves. It would set a dangerous precedent, providing a playbook for other governments to also turn browsers into censorship tools

NEW ILLUSTRATION
"Call Jane"
This work is an homage to the Jane Collective, which was started by a Jewish woman and whose main participants were almost entirely of Jewish women. The "Janes" provided safe, discreet abortion access to low income women in the early 1970s Chicago when abortion was mostly illegal in the USA.
The sign on the phone booth is one of the ads they placed in a paper. The background contains Jewish texts addressing social justice, resistance, abortion, and medicine. Photos from the days of the collective are also there.
The AT&T logo on the payphone is stylized to be a hamsa, with RM"K (my Hebrew name initials).
The new stupid right wing trend is describing crimes as vaguely as possible to pretend they're not crimes.
EXAMPLE: guy stands accused of walking into a bank in a ski mask, brandishing a gun, and demanding the tellers put $100,000 in unmarked bills in the bag or he's gonna start shooting
MAGA: wow so it's illegal to withdraw money now huh

Genetic genealogists working with US law enforcement have routinely been searching genetic databases that were opted out of forensic searches violating DOJ guidelines (and covering their tracks). #GeneticGenealogy
