Back in April 15th of 1998, a fan site known as "VX Half-Life" (later known as HalfLife Dot Org) released a video of their trip to Valve Software during Half-Life's development.

This video is LOST! Only bits and pieces of the video have survived throughout the years.

So I'm asking YOU data hoarders and folk who had the hindsight to make backups of your data, do you possibly have this video? Does anyone know anyone who may have kept this video? Does anyone know the people involved in the creation of this video? Does anyone know people who may have worked at GameStats who would of kept a server backup with the file present?

Attached is the only surviving minute of the video and some screen caps of the video from the archived site.

Known Filenames:

When Canada went metric in the 1970s, it was from Imperial.

Some people still think in it. But we also see a lot of American media, so it's really confusing where Imperial and American are different, especially liquid measures. Is a pint 16 US fluid ounces or 20 Imperial? (The ounces are almost, but not quite, the same)

The existence of the imperial system of measurements makes tool shopping so much more annoying.

Also, nothing more frustrating than flipping over your metric square and finding some useless 25.4mm scale on the other side, because you didn't look close enough when you bought it.

Just drop that shit already.

Globally we produce A LOT of #energy, but did you know the majority of fossil energy gets wasted? In the US alone, two-thirds of that energy is *wasted* as heat.

As Hannah Ritchie has pointed out, we don’t actually need to produce a low carbon equivalent of all of the coal, oil & gas we currently use.

That means we can decarbonize quickly by being less wasteful & more efficient. #ClimateChange #science

Here in the US it's a common belief that technology will save us from #climatechange. What's usually meant by this is a deus ex machina in the form of bazinga-brained tech like fusion/vat-grown meat/direct-air carbon capture. I contend technology has *already* saved us from climate change. We have all the technology we could ever need to solve this crisis. Ship, rail, solar, wind, biofuels, etc. We just aren't building it. It isn't a technological problem.

They should have renamed #Mastodon to a single letter, but used ⍼ as the letter...

Fun history behind that symbol.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

to my #gardening and #permaculture peepz around here. Do you use any software or digital resources for your gardening endeavours, and if so, which ones and why?

I was the victim of an extremely clever card fraud/social engineering hack.

Well, partly a victim since I managed to stop it.

I was called by my bank, as they wanted to “verify some suspect transactions on my account”.

Then things got weird…

Life finds a way. Unless you're a horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) in the forests of Poland and the horse chestnut leaf borer (Cameraria orhidella) kills you.

Horizontal transfer is being used for DNA information to be passed not vertically from mother / father genes, but "sideways" transferring a gene, like the astounding slug breed that ACQUIRED photosynthesis, the ability to eat sunlight.
This is another thing, its name not yet famous, of sharing cellular makeup, sharing abilities, shating the organic structures that preform the ability.

Life, supporting life, not even same species. And its built in!

Through 1 November 2023, we're seeking partners willing to share eDNA metabarcoding datasets to test an experimental tool:

Having established a foundation for sharing DNA-derived data, we've developed a browser based tool aimed at making it easier to publish data through GBIF.

If you:
✅ have DNA metabarcoding data
✅ understand its source and structure
✅ want to extend the reuse and impact of your data
please email us at DNA@gbif.org to signal your interest!

Ktoś, do kogo można by się zgłaszać z takimi zagadnieniami? A jeśli tak, to kto?
