Zaczęło się od tego, że słuchałem „The Flowers of Bermuda” Stana Rogersa. To folkowo-żeglarska piosenka o kapitanie, który poświęca się, żeby uratować swoją załogę. Kiedy sprawdziłem jej tekst, w komentarzach znalazłem długą dyskusję na temat tego, czy opisane w piosence wydarzenie miało miejsce, kiedy statek dopiero wypływał z Bermudów, czy do nich docierał po długim rejsie.

I previously worked on an Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund project that retrofitted and installed air source heat pumps into housing association homes.

Most of these homes were rural, off gas + previously used oil for heating.

I got to go on site visits and speak to the often elderly or disabled residents about their retrofit experience.

They were all retrofit evangelists! Making their neighbours envious with their warm homes + low energy bills.

I want everyone to get what they got.

I noticed a hole in one of my favorite shirts a few weeks back and noticed it again when I put it on this morning, but unlike in the past, today I decided to do something about it. I took a brief break from the job hunt to fetch my sewing kit and try my hand at darning. Is it an amazing job? No, but it was my first time, darn it!

8675309 (as in, Jenny's number from the Tommy Tutone song) is a prime number. What's more, it's the bottom half of a twin prime pair: add 2, and you get 8675311, which is ALSO prime.

If you're writing software that implements number-theoretic algorithms, it can be problematic to test it using small primes like 7 or 11, because small primes tend to have a lot of weird properties tend to trigger exceptions and edge cases. Having a pair of easy-to-remember, "big enough" prime numbers like the Jenny primes is really useful.

My expert advice?
