The V2 rocket was the first artificial object to reach outer #space. Its fuel was made from potatoes.
A book review of mine just came out. Buzz me if you're into the #BronzeAge in the countries around the #BalticSea!

people have laughed (laughed!!) when I've suggested that privacy and security practices were important for activists and organisers, dismissing it as overkill in a relatively ~chill~ country like Australia.
but protest is *increasingly* being criminalised here and our right to protest is under threat. while obviously we can and should fight this, people can *also* do digital security community care and implement practical anti-surveillance organising tactics
I think we need a "slow software" movement.
We can look to slow food, Cittaslow (slow city), and other slow efforts.
We need to look "Generative AI" squarely in the eye, and run—not walk—the opposite direction.
We need to teach and advocate for software development practices which are *intentionally* easy to learn and require minimal maintenance.
We need best practices which encourage methodical longevity over quick band-aid fixes.
We need to put artistry over capital.
Will you join me?
One thing I hate about my phone and localization is that I get to pick ONE language. That's it. But I'm fluent in both English and Norwegian.
I don't want American apps in shitty translated Norwegian, I want them in native English. At the same time, I don't want my local bank, gym, metro etc showing me their dubious English translations, I want the native Norwegian.
But I can't choose this. I get everything in one language. And it sucks.
@arstechnica @rysiek Small developers: Don’t build your software or business model on anyone’s AI model. When the music stops and the API is shut off you’ll be screwed. See also: Reddit, Twitter, etc.
Hell, I won’t allow myself to depend on any of Google services for anything important. Who knows when some product lead will get promoted or leave and that Google business will stagnate and die.
Thanks, California!

I spent the last days mostly tending to an ill dog and a not very healthy #RuralBroadband network. Priorities are important. At least one of them is getting better.
Today's acquisitions. There were very few #mushrooms in the forest, but most of the equipment needed to start playing with #LoRaWAN finally arrived. Must make a note to myself to fry only the stuff on the left.
The first few years after I planted this highbush cranberry (viburnum), it grew well.
Then some beetles found it and ate every flower and leaf within a few weeks, for a few years .
I am amazed that it survived.
But this year, no bugs. I'm hoping a predator or parasite found them and the bush can resume growth.
There weren't many flowers but the birds got a few of these bright red berries, but maybe there will be more next year.
Living in the #wetlands of #Polesia (also spelled #Polesie) in #EasternPoland. Surrounded by #bogs and #forests, trying not to fuck up surrounding nature too much.
Taking care of a small pack of #dogs – #IdąPsięta.
Luddite working with hi-tech.
#RuralBroadband provider by accident. Starting a small LoRaWAN project to monitor our wetlands. Coding in #Python. Dealing with dirty data, cleaning them when time allows.
#Atheist. I don't *believe* in #science – science is the *only* thing that protects us from belief.
Fuck nazis.
