@futurebird @projectgus I once attended a workshop by M K McKusick one of the key architects of BSD Unix. He told a story about people pestering him to increase the limit on filename length. His reply was “once you have put 1024 characters into the filename, consider maybe putting some data in the FILE!”.

Once you have used every letter in six alphabets, consider maybe TWO LETTER VARIABLES!

We have a problem with squirrels eating our jack o' lanterns, so I just work with them. I need an idea for this year! #halloween #pumpkins #squirrel

Would any academics who already have their PhD be willing to share their experiences with imposter syndrome in a couple of sentences? Either in a private mention or as a reply to this post?

Our EDI group is giving a seminar/discussion on imposter syndrome, but all of the resources out there are for PhD students. I want to show that it doesn't magically go away: that we're all struggling together.

All responses will be kept anonymous.

Please boost for visibility!

I just heard someone say "A fraction of a fraction of a percent" trying to emphasize how small it is...

I just mumbled under my breath "thats still a single fraction"

This is Alba, she is one of our puppies who came to Switzerland - we travelled 1000km just to get this picture😂

We are here to meet our puppy owners, we have another pup in Switzerland - Ambra, and a few weeks back we looked after both male puppies who are back in The Netherlands.

I don't think there's many other breeders who offer after-care support and follow-up, nor do many puppies get to meet their siblings and mother again - but for us it seems quite normal to do.

Microsoft, quietly, has published a guide on how to download and install Linux.

No... Seriously... It is not a joke...

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linux/install

The article was published September 29, 2023 (9 days ago).

The guide provides every option available, too. Starting with using their Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), to using a Virtual Machine, and even on "Bare Metal" alongside Windows.

That's right, Microsoft now tells you how to dual-boot Linux. 🤯
