the funniest thing in the Apple is the last version of MacOS features "video reactions" where if your camera sees you do a thumbs up or heart symbol with your hands, stuff happens behind you like fireworks in ANY video app you are using BY DEFAULT.

A friend was in an online therapy session, describing his trauma so the therapist asked if he was alright and he did a thumbs up and then HUGE FIREWORKS BEHIND HIS HEAD.

It's so bad that online therapy sessions now start with a warning dialog!

I am my husband's caregiver, mostly because his many cancer treatments have left him with neuropathy in his hands. He isn't able to take care of everything that he needs to take care of himself because his hands don't always work.
At least once a day, I get out supplies, and he has to lay down so I can help him.
As soon as Summer sees me setting up, she parks herself on her nearby bed so she can see what's going on and be out of the way. She doesn't make a sound until we are done.
As soon as she sees me picking up, she runs over to lick his cheek before he can sit up.
She really is as sweet as I toot she is.

@erinwhalen He may have been a scammer. According to this article, which is supported by contemporaneous newspaper reports, Cove was arrested for fraud. His device didn't generate electricity, and the batteries he claimed it was charging were actually being charged by the household electricity supply. bellingcat.com/news/2023/08/16

This story is NUTSO. Who knew that a Canadian inventor had created working solar panels as early as 1905 – and that him being KIDNAPPED is what possibly derailed the evolution of solar tech for decades?

(I thought the story might be exaggerating that last point until I saw the kidnappers' conditions for his release... 😲)

Setting up our new Telraam traffic monitor device, and boy those wacky Europeans, defaulting to 1.5m sidewalks, 4m wide roadways, and 20kph speed limits...

@szescstopni I'm sure toilet makers have been toy toying with that idea

@SteveKelso I don't consider myself an expert in anything because there is plenty I don't know. However, when find out I am doing something wrong, I try to do better. Not everyone is receptive to unlearning stuff.

@debbiephilp @littlestbee My cabin is fairly remote and in a bear family’s active range. I recently came across an ornithologist, asked if she was looking for any specific bird and she said she was looking for bears (and bobcats). After several questions to her I determined she had no clue how to interact and had to explain all the nuances including her disposal of food scraps. That’s a typical encounter for me. She was completely unaware of the dangers to herself and to the bear. I suggested she visit BearWise.org

Widok wrony wzlatującej na dobre 20 metrów, zrzucającej orzech na chodnik, zlatującej lotem nurkowym i wygodnie rozdziobującej sobie popękaną już skorupę: 10/10. Jestem fanem krukowatych. <3

The next step of will be toilets that stop working when they run out of yellow ink.

Hi #fediverse, I'm curious if it makes sense for organizations to run their own #Mastodon server for the purpose of 1) controlling their messaging out to the world, and 2) as a platform for internal communication in the organization. Are there any examples of this being done?

I love fall #running, and I'm grateful that I am able to get out there often. Life is a bit overwhelming at the moment and it feels good to be in my body to start the day.

This little midland painted #turtle is too cute not to share. His back end was injured by a car but he's healing well. I'm confident he will be released in the spring.

TL/DR: Climate change and habitat loss are the big reasons birds are disappearing from my neck of the woods. A solution lies in wetlands, if we can keep them.

Recently when I deleted my bird-site profile, I noticed that in the settings, it was recorded as "Gender - Male".

I never set my gender in such profiles - after all, my avatar is a coffee cup, coffee is surely gender-neutral.

So it makes me think the algorithm looked at posts re #coffee and #science and said -> male.

Problematic enough, but then it put the faulty logic straight into the settings. Yes I can correct it (if necessary) but that is not the point.
