@BardfromtheBookshop I've been planting tree guilds for about 30 years and can recommend many possible options. The 'rule of thumb' is to include pollinator attractants, pest repellants, nitrogen fixers and fertilizers, mulch producers, grass suppressants, and so on. Daffodils should almost always be included as they are toxic to burrowing rodents like voles which can kill a tree. Sharp gravel all around the roots, when planting, will also protect them from root munchers. Your particular climate and soils will determine your best choices. Good suggestion about spreading the roots to avoid self-strangulation. Also be certain to NOT bury the graft. I have lots of specific plant suggestions but will await your reply.

In my high school days I had an old teacher who told us about his childhood family car. It had a crank start handle in the front and in the winter when cold the oil would be too thick to crank by hand. The rural farm solution was to dip some corn cobs in kerosene and burn them in a pan under the engine to warm it up so it would crank. Long story short, I trust the safety of this over charging an EV in my garage.

The Met Office app lied to me when it said it wouldn’t rain this morning. But then again, I wouldn’t have seen this rainbow 🌈.

Mastodon is full of white moderates with "polite" excuses for racism and racists. "Polite" excuses for supporting a genocide. "Polite" excuses for state violence against Black, Indigenous, or Arab people.

This bullshit is exhausting. And it's infuriating that few white people can see what's going on. Because this abusive polite-white racism and white supremacy is often invisible to people who don't experience it themselves. Or they benefit from maintaining the status quo of systemic racism.

But online and offline life are not disconnected spaces.

Systemic racism is driving the apartheid state of Israel to murder and terrorise Palestinians. Systemic racism is being used to excuse this genocide. Systemic racism resources IOF. And white-polite people around the world enable this violence to continue with no consequences.

But back to Mastodon....

Systemic racism is keeping Mastodon from being an inclusive, safe, anti-racist space. White-polite racism is stopping Mastodon from being an effective space to advocate for Palestinians, and to condemn the apartheid regime of Israel.
