One good thing about living in a poor community – people can't afford to buy much fireworks, so we had a relatively calm night.
Just had a person inform me that I "don't understand what money laundering is" because I explained that cash is difficult to trace and criminals will often use someone else's account to deposit proceeds of crime into the banking system in order to avoid detection. Sigh.
The confidence of mediocre white men talking to women about their own jobs etc*
*To be clear, my job involves anti-money laundering, not money laundering. Transferable skills though
I stopped using Twitter in March and I just deleted my Instagram account. I read today that 30% of everybody in the world who has access to the internet uses Instagram so it’s not going away anytime soon but I don’t need to be one of them. On fedi what you share gets engagement naturally because of actual interest and not because some company is paying Meta to make you see it. People are so much nicer here and I help make Tooters a safe space. I am so done with all the billionaire bullshit.
I timed AFTER THE THIN MAN on Max (formerly HBO Max) so the new year would strike simultaneously on film and in real life.
After it did, I paused. When I restarted, I got this message.
A good reminder for 2024: physical media doesn’t disappear at midnight.
Crocodile or yawning dog? Inca is getting bored with this dog modeling business.

You know, I always recommend Bosch e-bike systems to people, but I think I'm going to stop. Their newest system is so laden with DRM that I can't actually update anything even though I'm one of the certified technicians who's supposed to be able to do so even according to their evil DRM scheme. It's been literally months since I got certified and I still can't get access on my stupid DRM account. Seriously, just don't buy Bosch motors.
Perhaps I should have said “happy Public Domain Day to those who celebrate” because apparently TikTok does not celebrate.
@LornaWoods thanks and if only.
By the time I had realised that it was the same mouse coming into my house repeatedly, he worked out how many peanuts he could eat in the humane trap without triggering it. I secretly added some extra weight to trick him and then drove him several miles to a new home in a beautiful wood.
I imagine he's getting a gang of woodland creatures together to return once they have worked out how to sabotage the trap!
Hello! I'm a professor of cyber security at Loughborough University and programme director for defence & security at The Alan Turing Institute. I run slowly, play guitar badly and once lost a battle of wits with a field mouse.
Today, we lost one of the original Rainbow Warriors.

@hembrow @gerrymcgovern Planned Obsolence AND vendor lock-in. It should be forbidden. Do bikes fall under the #RightToRepair legislation?
One of the proudest things of 2023 for us was raising puppies and last night it all paid off - Artis's guardians sent us this video of him SLEEPING through The Dutch firework warzone - at week 3-4 we did a program of sound desensitisation and it worked better than expected. I know some people hate all breeders (#adoptDontShop) but hopefully the is shows what good ethical breeding can product - #dogs ready for the world. #dogsOfMastodon #fediDogs
