- i zakazać aborcji.

I love this High Country News post polling readers for new names for five bird species previously named after old white dudes. And to the few people answering "keep it the same because this dude was good actually", stay mad. We're changing them.

If a Beaver is cutting down a large tree, it will stop every 10 to 15 minutes to rest and sharpen its teeth by grinding the top incisors against the bottom ones. https://www.naturecompanion.ca/animals/beaver/ #NatureCompanion
“Things are about to get a lot worse for Generative AI”
Like I and quite a few others have been saying for ages, generative models are very prone to verbatim copying both text and image. People in tech pretend it doesn’t happen but it’s much more prevalent than people think https://garymarcus.substack.com/p/things-are-about-to-get-a-lot-worse
Zosia update: She ran away. She slipped out of her collar and ran onto the forest road leading to the village a few kilometres away. It is -7°C. Her leg has healed quite well, but she still limps a bit.
She came back after five minutes, and now is sitting on her bed in a relatively warm house, with a bowl of food.
We need to find a new home for her ASAP
Technology is *wild*! I just talked to someone in Japan while remotely operating a #HamRadio using my phone.
My million dollar idea I want someone to steal and do, so I can be a customer.
"Dumb Stuff" we sell electronic appliances that aren't Internet connected. That's all.
That's it. That's the pitch. I would buy the <bleep> out of this company if their electronic gadgets were even half way decent, and repairable.
Electronic, no wifi, regular screws to open it up. That's it. Do those three things, and you can be sold by this store.
I will pay this business to curate and find these devices for me.
If your website is still http only, no https...
... are you okay? Do you need help doing archival work? this isn't shade, we just saw the long tail of the web forced offline with the move to https everywhere.
Are you holding on to an http only site for someone who's passed? DM me and I'll help you save a copy some place more durable than a personal or academic server sitting on someone's desk or in a closet. Let's save the remnants of the old web before they go offline entirely.
I made a new blog post, and in it I show how I build a device to monitor the voltage of a 12V battery and share it over the Internet. Something that might be useful for remote astrophotography rigs or when building off-grid power installations. I'm using a Raspberry Pi Pico and some basic circuitry to make it all work. Take a look!

I love the idea of people seeing Jesus in their toast. Communicating with the afterlife via bread! One of the lesser-known dark portals to beyond the veil. Panismantia. Dark spreads, consecrated butters. A whole-wheat/nut flour ratio banned by the Catholic church. Subtle rites potentially ruined by accidental use of the defrost button.
Not a high-information medium, toast, I'll grant you, but arguably more dynamic than your ouji board. A bit like using fax having previously sent telegrams.
I switched to Firefox a few weeks ago and it was remarkably painless for something absolutely critical that I need to work reliably, with zero additional friction, every single day.
I cannot stress how low-hassle it is to switch from Chrome to a browser with a business model that doesn't rely on tracking you.
Do it.
