Here's an interactive waterway map for the United States! https://txpub.usgs.gov/DSS/streamer/web/

You can click on a lake or river and get the path from it to the nearest major body of water (Great Lake / ocean).

@pl @rysiek @inkscape A friend with muscular dystrophy actually took the position that he wanted to take back the word gimp because one of its original meanings was “fighting spirit.” He certainly had that.

One problem with using Andy Warhol's art to decide copyright law is that his work is uniquely unoriginal.

We are now three years into the shift from office working to hybrid/home-based and the only strategy commercial property developers have is paying for advertorials bleating about how everyone should work in offices rather than idk pivoting their model.

Capitalism is not a driver of innovation, or they'd have fucking innovated.

And whose fault is that?

Actual result: Earth sized exoplanet found orbiting dwarf star, at distance where liquid water could potentially exist on its surface
Admittedly cool speculation: it’s chock full of volcanoes, *and* liquid water could exist on it’s permanent night side.
Chances the “speculation” bit gets dropped in most press coverage: pretty high.

I hiked a section of the woods yesterday that I hadn't been to in years. It's a canyon carved into a higher plateau that only has one low spot for drainage, through a massive jam of boulders. The beavers have mostly dammed that up so the canyon is full of water. The section below the boulders, about 20 feet lower, gets a steady trickle of water and is lush with growth.

As Elizabeth Holmes’s chances of avoiding or delaying her sentence rapidly fade away, I can’t help but feel a bit bemused that her 11 year sentence is for defrauding her investors, not for the bogus medical tests she peddled that might well have resulted in people’s actual deaths.

Curious interactions over the last year of using #rail pass:

- Can I see the relation? (there's no relation)
- We don't honor these. (you do, for 2 years now)
- We don't honor yearly passes. (it's monthly, yearly passes aren't sold for 10 years now)
- We don't honor employee discounts. (this is not a discount pass)
- We don't honor REGIOkarta. (you do those that were sold before Sep 30.)

And the best of all: "Can you wait a minute, please? My colleague wanted to know how a pass looks like."

Hello kolektiva!

We recently suspended mastodon.social to deal with a very large wave of spam bots signing up on their instance, and then tagging our users (and users everywhere) with spam/scam direct messages. The suspension was temporary and has since been lifted, but unfortunately suspension of this kind wipes out any following/follower connections between our users and users on mastodon.social. We didn't realize it was irreversible! 😞

The mod team at the time was trying to act quickly to deal with a deluge of reports and spam messages, and Limiting/Silencing an instance does not remove messages already sitting in your mentions.

Sorry for everyone who has noticed they lost followers or follows they valued! The suspension has been lifted at the moment, so connections can be re-made without issue, but in all likelihood those connections have to be re-made manually and will not be returning auto-magically(see below) .

In the future we will avoid such a drastic measure even when dealing with such a volume of spam. Everyone on the team is now better aware of other options (although they are more labor-intensive, and may not be sufficient in the future as these spammers adapt their methods).

Sorry for the inconvenience to any of these affected users. Shit happens! 💩

@admin tells us they currently trying to dig into the DB with a magic miracle that may at least allow us to provide users who request it a list of accounts they were following from mastodon.social! It's a bit of a moonshot, but if we're successful we'll let you know!

Thank you for your understanding and solidarity! 🏴 🖤
