What's the difference between a porcupine and two lawyers in a Porsche?

The Porsche has the pricks on the inside.

On Monday, I wrote an essay about climate and biodiversity for Scientific American. I tracked proportional engagement, calculated as (likes + shares + comments)/followers, over six social media platforms.

The winner? MASTODON, by a landslide.

Second place? INSTAGRAM. It's harder to share posts on IG, but lot of people like things there!

The loser? FACEBOOK, also by a landslide. On Facebook, I've been shadow-banned since August 2018 when they listed clean energy and climate as "socially sensitive topics" so my page there stopped growing 6 years ago and now only about 1% of my followers there ever see my posts. It's actually too bad, because that's the platform where I reach the most conservative audiences through their connections to friends and family. So even though it's dead last, I still persist.

Today in Labor History May 26, 1824: Women and girls led the first recorded factory strike in US history. 102 women and girls walked off the job at Slater Mill, in Pawtucket, and picketed their factory.
Two days prior, the owners had increased working hours by an hour per day with no additional pay. Additionally, they slashed the pay of power-loom weavers by 25%. Those affected were all women and girls aged 15 to 30. According to the bosses, the girls had already been earning “extravagant wages.”

The owners were caught off guard. They were not expecting a protest. Indeed, no U.S. factories had ever experienced a strike. Perhaps even more shocking, other workers and community members joined them in solidarity. They blockaded the mills and hurled rocks at the mansions of the owners. On the final day of the week-long strike, workers set one of the mills on fire. The next day, the owners agreed to negotiate and agreed on a compromise.

Perhaps it's failing cortex, but I prefer my own explanation that I'm simply not interested in what most people are trying to tell me :)

GOOD NEWS STORY
I had seen the posters for this missing dog and after more than a year we were all thinking that dog was gone for good.
The RCMP were investigating an unconnected crime just down the road, found a dog alone in a house and... Watch the video to see a happy dog and family.

Mam déjà vu... Rosjanie pracują nad własnym odpowiednikiem Wikipedii. Trzecim z kolei od wszczęcia działań wojennych w Ukrainie. Jeszcze w sierpniu ub.r. pojawił się Runiwersalis (ros. Руниверсалис), potem zapowiedziano uruchomienie projektu Wiedza (ros.

People really should stop spending their time on websites owned & run by super rich weirdos

Instead they should spend it on sites run by regular weirdos like you and me

At least we’re fairly harmless

Does anyone know if this has been challenged?

The U.S. government is frustrated that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is prioritizing social spending for the benefit of his people over addressing matters that are important to the U.S., according to an excerpt of a leaked top-secret intelligence document. theintercept.com/2023/05/26/me

The most common gender affirming surgery is breast augmentation -- in cis (non-trans) women.

The regret rate is around 20%.

Gender affirming surgeries in trans people have around a 1% regret rate.
