Reading a magazine *in print* and realizing how nice it is to not have the publisher know every bit of data on how I consumed it—how long it sat on my coffee table, time spent on each article, which products I research because I saw it on the pages…
In a constantly connected world, analog feels like an escape.
@imdat @futurebird No worries, and that makes sense. I think what’s being suggested is that, for instance, if you were counting cars by placing a spiked strip across the road that happened to also puncture the tires, then wondered if the intention of counting cars is why no cars are showing up at the second counter, it could instead be the physical properties of the counter itself that causes the observed behavior. That said, I accept that they might have already thought of that, I just didn’t come across it in my reading (mostly Feynman and secondary sources).
The owner of that land cut down some birches last year when price of firewood was very high. The price rapidly fell and now the logs are left to rot – but at least #IdąPsięta have a new playground.
There are some interesting lessons to learn from the relationship of US bomber command and the use of tracers in the ammunition mix for machine gunners. Basically, they got rid of it because it was doing more harm than good. And then they solved the real problem that tracers illuminated (pun very much intended)

You can’t beat the taste of a strawberry fresh from the plant and warm from the sun. Beats weeding brassicas hands down, which was the thing keeping me busy this morning.

Oops. AltText for the last two pictures in this thread:

Why I suspended my LinkedIn account
https://neilzone.co.uk/2023/06/why-i-suspended-my-linkedin-account
A few people - particularly other lawyers - asked why I suspended my LinkedIn account.
Here's a blogpost explaining why.
tl;dr: I find LinkedIn to 99% complete dross, confering zero benefit on me, and I'd rather people just had their own websites and blogs.
Living in the #wetlands of #Polesia (also spelled #Polesie) in #EasternPoland. Surrounded by #bogs and #forests, trying not to fuck up surrounding nature too much.
Taking care of a small pack of #dogs – #IdąPsięta.
Luddite working with hi-tech.
#RuralBroadband provider by accident. Starting a small LoRaWAN project to monitor our wetlands. Coding in #Python. Dealing with dirty data, cleaning them when time allows.
#Atheist. I don't *believe* in #science – science is the *only* thing that protects us from belief.
Fuck nazis.
My account on Twitter is still up, for good reasons. https://twitter.com/szescstopni
I check facts before I toot.
I sometimes toot in Polish.
Zdolny, ale leniwy.
