Big news in bug math. This is the first year since 1803 when both 13-year cicadas and 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground simultaneously in the US!

13 and 17 are both prime. It's believed cicadas evolved to have prime-number life cycles to avoid predators that emerge more frequently, like once every 4 years or 5 years or... whatever. By showing up infrequently, with a prime number life cycle, they can starve out those predators.

And since 13 and 17 are both prime and 13 × 17 = 221, both kinds of cicadas emerge simultaneously only once every 221 years. And

1803 + 221 = 2024

so now they'll both emerge simultaneously and we'll have 𝑙𝑜𝑡𝑠 of cicadas!

Also, this year the two kinds can interbreed!

Tak sobie myślę, że byłoby na prawdę fajnie gdyby np WatchaDog Polska miał oficjalne konto na Mastodon. Biorąc pod uwagę to czym się zajmują, byłoby to o wiele lepsze miejsce niż X/Meta.

Nie oczekuję, że porzucą tamte platformy, nie mogą i nie powinni, tam jest większość, a oni powinni starać się docierać do jak największej liczby ludzi, a nie walczyć z BigTech, jednak myślę że byłoby wskazane by takie organizacje:
1. Pozwalały na (wygodną) dwukierunkową komunikację ze sobą bez akceptowania zasad narzucanych przez firmy.
2. Nie były zależne od widzi-mi-się tych firm.

@panoptykon czy Wy może macie jakiś guideline o komunikacji dla instytucji publicznych albo NGO? A może znacie kogoś e Watchadogu, komu można byłoby wspomnieć o ActivityPub/Fedi/Mastodon?

The other day, I bought a load of 100% rye bread and paid $13 for it. So I'm back to baking my own:
My 8 year old Sourdough culture: made with 50% spelt 50%rye

Dough: 100% whole wheat spelt 26%; 100% rye 74%
Cooked rye, oat & spelt berries
Sunflower seeds
