I own some undeveloped wetland in Skagit County, WA affectionately called Camp Runamuck. I love the skunk cabbage blooms in the spring.

We have our own little wildlife preserve. A pair of ospreys return each year to breed high in tree. A doe guards her two fawns. Cougars leave their scat on the trail. Great blue herons fish in the pond. Canada geese pay a seasonal visit. Ducks stop by. Various types of woodpeckers make homes in the snags. Hummingbirds buzz by. Frogs and garter snakes hang out. Bats flaunt their acrobatics. Bright blue and red dragonflies pause to stare. Beaver sightings are very rare, but they leave me clues they are there.

We often take a picnic and sit by the firepit. Sometimes we camp overnight. Wouldn't change a thing.

Happy World Wetlands Day.

Habitat, flood and drought control, carbon sequestration. Wetlands do it all. Is your city not flooded after every rain or snow melt event? Thank your local wetland, and the people who have worked to preserve it.

W Niemczech urzędy, część firm i przede wszystkim mnóstwo ludzi zrezygnowało z X i podobnych na rzecz mastodona. Widać to dobrze w pracy.

Disintermediate The State

As part of my MSc, I'm being asked to think about "digital disruption" - so here are some personal thoughts about the future of transactions with the state. The UK Government has a lot of APIs to let computers communicate with each other. Most of them are department-to-department.

For example, the Ministry of Birds wants to get an updated list of incidents from the Department of

People management, project management, and engineering work are three entirely separate categories of work and context-switching between them is wasteful and inefficient.

Expecting a given employee to do even two of those in the same workweek is unreasonable.

Tomorrow is the . But we should be aware of the importance and beauty of every day.
