I used to have old, metal bathtub.

My cats loved it, as soon as I was out and the water was drained, they were in.

I liked the warm bathtub too ;-)

@rysiek Much more effective: do a reverse lookup. Since my e-mail server does that and it refuses to accept mails from IP addresses that don’t have a PTR configured, spam has dropped to almost zero.

UBI would help me with so many problems I feel are intractable right now, and I do not think I would stop working all together. I suspect lots of folks feel this way.

I took pixel.infosec.exchange offline to fix the new critical cve in pixelfed. Since pixelfed doesn't work well with docker, I am also moving to a vanilla/bare metal install, so it'll take a while to complete. My apologies.

You want to talk about disruptive technologies that solve supply chain insecurity, transportation emission, and price inflation: publicly-owned, slow, and local rail.
No moonshots. No white elephants. No scamy new technology.
Just well-planned networks of logistical and commuter trains based on existing road networks. With diesel trains upgraded to electric engines, powered by decentralized solar/wind stations. Cheeper than new fighter jets.

The big farmers are drowning in EU cash and drowning the countryside in their toxic chemicals and shit. The little farmers are cut out by the big ones, and the public don't give a toss as long as the food is cheap.

Brittany beaches are covered in nitrogen (from manure) fuelled algae, that decompose to give H2S gas which kills people and animals...

When I was a teenager, about 60 years ago, my dad said "In 10 years time, nobody will remember The Beatles".

I think their fame is almost gone, but I'm sure some people still remember them.

How about you?

@gerrymcgovern " strategy of planned obsolescence". This is why stuff our parens bought still works, whereas new, more expensive stuff breaks in 5 yrs. :(

This is something laws should step in to legislate against. We need less in junk yards and garbage fills.

Exploring preparing food and canning it for local donations - but I want to do it in an official and safe manner.

The local free fridge requires either fresh produce or sealed food.

I'm wondering if I can form a non-profit, get some sort of licensure for home canning, and make prepared meals for the fridge.

Bonus points if they return the mason jars etc for reuse (wont be required though).

Anyhow. Musings for the future.

Also, fun fact about the “1984” ad I did not know until just now, its production gave 200 actual Nazis a nice paycheck. Well done Ridley

#hamradio the only sure way to continue normal operations during emergencies is to always be off grid.

@admin avoid amazon, pay more locally I don't care. I prefer supporting local biz.

So my father passed away about a year ago.
My mother is still finding random charges to her credit cards from his old Amazon account.
Amazon was notified that he had passed. His credit cards were cancelled. He was never an authorized user on my mom's cards, and Amazon was never authorized to bill his subscriptions to her cards.
The bank apparently says this happens a lot, it's a well known issue.

It's a well known issue.
That Amazon regularly commits credit card fraud.

Christ I am so glad I no longer do business with those crooks.

Beavers have been busy in our wetland. What was once a small stream is now a series of ponds at varying levels of water. With the tall grasses flattened down by the recent snow, details of their activity become visible: The edge of the pond is lined with a low but very long dam of mud and grass clots, raising the waterline by half a foot above the adjacent meadow.
