In particular, murine skin architecture is dominated by hair follicles, which are less frequent in human skin, leaving human skin with a larger proportion of much thicker interfollicular epidermis (22). Hence, to understand and translate the functions of the TGF-β signaling pathways into a human setting, it is important to use a human cellular and tissue system"

Not included in the 1974 Nobel prize for the discovery, Bell received a £3m prize for her work in 2018. She's using it to set up a foundation to improve diversity in STEM.
