'We report on the protocolized use of tecovirimat (SIGA Technologies), an antiviral drug with activity against orthopoxviruses (including monkeypox and smallpox),1 under an expanded access program for all patients with monkeypox virus (MPXV) disease in Mbaïki, Central African Republic, between December 2021 and February 2022.2 Included in the study were 14 patients in whom MPXV infection had been diagnosed.'

1. It's Friday. Time for a #flu 🧵
So #influenza-like illness is still rocking the country. This year's epi curve - the one to the far left - is incredibly high & sharp. That's not all flu & it tells us nothing about severity. It does tell us a lot of people have respiratory infections these days.

Why is the ability to do good science orthogonal to the ability to give a good presentation? I would think intelligence and creativity would be common attributes to both skills. 30 years of watching science seminars makes me think the two skills are independent of each other.

Genocides & other mass atrocity crimes begin with words - specifically, with powerful people dehumanizing a minority.

Once they are seen as less than human, anything is possible, even mass murder.
