#Introduction Time! I'm a developmental neurobiologist doubling as a cell biologist & microscopist. My fantastic team and I work at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in #Memphis.
Our lab interfaces with neural development and tech implementation to produce a quantitative and mechanistic entry point to understand cell polarization and neuronal differentiation. We work with a strong team mindset to discern the role of cell polarity health & disease.
Here's a little #sciart video:
I cannot keep this to myself. There is a website (radio.garden) where you can listen to radio stations all over the world for free. No log in. No email address. Nothing.
When the site loads, you are looking at the globe. Slide the little white circle over the green dots (each green dot is a radio station) until you find one you like.
I have been listening to this station in the Netherlands and it absolutely slaps. I have no idea what they're saying but the music is fantastic.
Tough... but fair.
"Also, scientific topics are often complex, and it’s generally not worth spending time and energy to understand a technical argument unless it’s particularly germane to your work.
But compounding these issues is a simple truth that has made science less impactful than it could otherwise be: Scientific papers are poorly written. And they’ve been getting worse."

"One may now ask, pointedly, whether an unvaccinated child after infection will have the immune system of an 80-year-old at the age of 30." "It is quite possible that the phenomenon will disappear after two or three years, because young children can still reproduce naïve immune cells. We don't know all this yet. I have always advocated vaccination and infection control for children out of an abundance of caution." Drosten

@atomicpoet It makes sense. Some people just want Elon Musk to go away & think once that happens, it will be okay. Many do not see the fiscal icebergs ahead composed of:
👉🏾 Lost ad revenue
👉🏾 Future FTC fines
👉🏾 EU Sanctions
👉🏾 Landlord lawsuits for unpaid rent
👉🏾 Wrongful termination lawsuits
👉🏾 Bank interest loan payment
I expect #ElonMusk to declare himself a Spartan & try to fight it all in court, but #Twitter looks doomed if you ask me.

Hello World
An #introduction : I'm an Assistant Professor of #neuroscience at #BrownUniversity studying the cross-species neural bases of non-motor and cognitive sequences (e.g., how do we keep track of the sequence of tasks in making a cup of coffee). We use fMRI and TMS in humans, and fMRI and electrophysiology in animals with a current focus on on the frontal cortex.
I am an advocate and supporter of #WomenInSTEM. If anyone is interested in joining us (we're looking to grow our team) please see the lab website.
I'm looking forward to exploring conversation in this new space!
Just so we are clear, Masking protects not only you but people like Jamie Raskin, who will now be immunocompromised due to cancer treatment. Masks should be the norm in our very sick, very contagious world. Covid and the RSV are exploiting the vulnerable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. These viruses my not kill you but they do more permanent damage to your body each time you contract them.
Maybe too niche but... I'm looking for book recommendations by Native authors on water rights/issues in the Eastern US. Authors or book recommendations appreciated.
Please boost.

VIRAL PERSISTENCE
IT IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF MYOCARDITIS IN #LONGCOVID
In 85.7%(12/14) of Endomyocardial Biopsies
persistence of up to 18 months of SARS CoV2 was detected
It was identified in Cardiomyocytes,Endothelium,Macrophages
Also Anticardiac Antibodies

@emilymbender There is a demand for low-background steel, steel produced before the nuclear tests mid century, for use in Geiger counters. They produce it from scavenging ships sunk during world war one, as it's the only way they can be sure there is no radiation.
The same is going to happen for internet data, only archives pre-2022 will be usable for sociology research and the like as the rest will be contaminated by AI nonsense. Absolute travesty.

COVID may be reactivating viruses in your body
“A mild or even an asymptomatic case of #COVID can cause reservoirs of some viruses you’ve previously battled to reactivate, potentially leading to symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome—a condition that resembles long COVID, according to a recent study published in the journal Frontiers in Immunology.”

Scientists should always feel unsatisfied with the answers to their questions:
“The scientist, by the very nature of [their] commitment, creates more and more questions, never fewer. Indeed the measure of our intellectual maturity [….] is our capacity to feel less and less satisfied with our answers to better problems.”

Fission is in the news, but few recognize that a woman physicist was behind the discovery.
Lise Meitner’s brilliance led to the discovery of nuclear fission. But her long time collaborator Otto Hahn, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry w/o her in 1944, even though she had given the first theoretical explanation.
Albert Einstein called Meitner “our Marie Curie." She also adamantly refused to work on the atomic bomb during WWII. https://www.aps.org/publications/apsnews/201502/physicshistory.cfm #women #history #science #energy
