Something that's baffled me since I was a kid is why people are, in general, so into confidence.

E.g., I posted a paper to HN and it was panned by multiple folks for not making claims that are so confident that they couldn't possibly be well supported.

If you want papers that do that, there are plenty, such as the first one cited in https://danluu.com/empirical-pl/ which, last time I checked, was the 2nd most highly cited paper from FSE (the top SE conf) that year, but I don't see why you'd want that.
