Why is it that the American headlines about the current air quality disaster so frequently emphasize that it's "Canadian" smoke?

I don't remember this kind of blame-y emphasis in previous years either when smoke went in either direction but, this time, every American headline I've seen about the smoke has called it "Canadian smoke".
