It’s been ten years since Amazon announced its drone delivery service and it hasn’t gone much beyond research project phase in that time.
I’ve always believed this was a publicity stunt that got out of hand and took on a life of its own.
It had the same sort of magical thinking behind it that had people thinking self driving cars would fix Uber’s business model despite massive practical concerns. With drones, the question being how is this cheaper than a guy in a truck?

@carnage4life This points out a major deficit with solutionist thinking: that one and only one solution will win, as opposed to a diverse ecology of approaches. Sure, drones might be useful - delivering healthcare supplies in Africa. Delivering by cargo bike in flat European cities. Eksetera.
