Being in a #public institute in #india, the government has directed us to use #hindi along with #English in all official mails.
With members from all over the country in the community, this was exclusionary.
At the same time, a subset of Hindi speakers used a highly #sanskrit -ized version of the #language in debate mailing threads, presumably to show intellectual prowess?
A student, and a friend of mine, sent out this mail today in response to this practice.
1.a) most languages in India, including Hindi, derive from Sanskrit/Prakrit and hence share much of their vocabulary - even Chinese seems to have highly differentiated regional dialects, maybe no confused elites there
1.b) so, Hindi can't be Sanskrit-ized, since it is a Persian-ized variant of Sanskrit/Prakrit
2.a) Indian languages other than Hindi have remained almost completely safe from Persian-ization
2.b) so, it is a no-brainer that un-Persian-ized Hindi would suit most of India
