I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is the best Star Wars spin-off since the original trilogy. I really enjoyed the final two episodes.
@bsmall2 Easy for me to carp from the sidelines I know. But the FSF/E seem to mostly work on convincing people it's a good idea to upcycle devices, and often end up preaching to the choir. It occurs to me they might achieve more if they helped coordinate (and get funding) for the work to get more devices supported, make installing replacement OS easier etc.
The FSFE is running a campaign encouraging people to upcycle old Android devices with free code software. Totally agree with this in principle, but beyond installing F-Droid and using apps installed from there as much as possible, I've found it remarkably hard to do in practice.
@0 didn't they take the submarine contract first ;-)
@mathiasx sorry, isn't this "just" about making up your mind? Or "just" finding something worth immersing yourselves in first up in the morning?
I, without planning, get immersed in something the odd morning and stumble across notifications on the device after breakfast! I too use websites for services rather than apps almost exclusively.
@logic the article's ludicrity goes on. A freelance writer's haze being sprinkled on the fediverse.
RBI shouldn't ban an audit firm from auditing banks? Why not! They are not banning them from auditing anybody else.
And the bit about TRAI not doing anything about the telecom duopoly? Are they supposed to tell Vodafone, Idea or Anil Ambani how to run a business!
@logic such nice pickings to pad the anti- #ONDC anti- #Beckn tirade, does logic count for nothing? You will be taken only as seriously as the article is.
If ONDC, compliant with Beckn, isn't an improvement over Amazon/Flipkart et al, then NPCI wouldn't have been an improvement over Visa/Mastercard et al. But it was! A big one. ONDC could be too, lets see.
And the criticism? The regulator should be involved in ONDC? Hilarious! You couldn't complain to CCI if they had a vested interest!

I see only vitriol for the Beckn protocol for digital commerce, even though it, in its https://ondc.org #ONDC form, *could* loosen monopolies like Amazon. Without some justification, the vitriol seems like noise.
e.g. being created by actors endorsed by the Gates Foundation in other contexts does give #Beckn a hint of a bad smell. Also doesn't acknowledge pre-existing work like https://valueflo.ws . Also, other open-source tech stacks of those actors, like https://sunbird.org, are mind-boggling contraptions.
Interesting UX observation:
I just saw an online store do a very minor change in the user flow for "Forgot My Password" — I clicked "Forgot..." and it sent me to enter a new password right away. After I finished entering the new password, *then* it told me check your email for a numeric code. Of course, by the time I finished typing the code was already in my inbox. A minor change, but it felt much more streamlined!

@spacebuffer if you are OK learning a small general-purpose language for describing diagrams, you could write genealogy in Graphviz dot files. Emacs has an editing mode for everything! And you can keep checking on the resulting diagram by running a shell command: M-! dotty genealogy.dot
@tfardet I was just pointing out that even something as conceptually simple as using bath water for flushing in a bathroom wasn't part of modern design. So there is a proven tendency to discount past systems and look to make the new shiny.
The "Indians would have invented ecosan earlier" point is difficult to argue for; colonization has made just survival a question in many regions.
@tfardet probably a point to consider accepting is that modern designs are a regression from past designs, and we could adopt past ideas (with proper attribution even though they weren't released under Creative Commons licenses 1000's years ago).
