Framasoft are one of the few no-bullshit, non-Silicon Valley organisations working to protect your freedoms online and they’ve been hugely supportive of us since the very beginning.
Please support them if you can.
@mlliarm just FYI, there are already #Elixir -based #ActivityPub servers, Pleroma for social nedia, Mobilizon for community events, etc.
@madscientist welcome, GNU maintainer. I, like most of "our" world, rely on 'make' (and 'gcc', and'emacs', and on and on), so thank you.
#EmacsTip: Do you know what's the most flexible and powerful email client? It's #Gnus, an #Usenet newsreader! It's so much extensible that other Email clients that:
"gnus is to emacs users what emacs is to other users" --- Topic for #gnus on @liberachat

@rolle true. Couldn't simpler software than Mastodon, like https://epicyon.net, do the job?
If you're #NewHere (or even if you're not) and getting dogpiled by huge numbers of asshats from one instance, take heart. You or your instance admins can mute or block that whole instance and everyone on it. If that sounds confusing, check out this fantastic video by @derek on moderation in the fediverse, how it's fundamentally different from what's possible on centralized platforms, and why that can be better for everyone here:

In my experience, Peck is right that the only way out of chaos is through emptiness (stage 3);
"members emptying themselves of barriers to communication ... expectations and preconceptions; prejudices; ideology, theology and solutions; the need to heal, fix, convert or solve; and the need to control."
Emptiness is the only way out of chaos, and back to stage 4, true community. We've done it before, I genuinely believe we'll do it again.
@thoughtfulnz where news website learn about rel="me" for their journalists
@hayley a couple of months in the real world can save a year of mis-direction in the laboratory. "Laboratory conditions" can't be replicated even in other laboratories, which is why libraries have so many books on the same theory - results from different laboratories.
@lucifargundam I doubt "rewrites" would be required. Not only is Plan9 an evolution of Unix, Go has probably been ported by now. A very small part of most software deals with I/O and parallelism, which part is what would need rewriting. Maybe an RDBMS or a NoSQL server isn't ported yet.
Plan9 architecture is an advantage worth the differences. The porting effort involved would likely be a fraction of that involved in Docker et al and in developing for them.
I wonder how much effort it would take to port commonly-used server software to #Plan9. You would get isolation by design. And it would be a one-time effort instead of ever-increasing re-implementations like Docker, Sandstorm, etc. that cobble together hobbled pieces like cgroups, containers, KVM, etc.

@downbeatdan agreed, but budding musicians looking to make big bucks are the enablers for them. And artists-at-heart can ignore them and self-publish online?
@thom_ftc it might be automated, but a manual check by the user beats automatic verification by the service provider. If they have a website or a profile elsewhere known to you, they can mention their fediverse handle there (Mastodon/Pleroma/Peertube/Mobilizon/Epicyon/WriteFreely which all inter-operate in open, standard ways).
@jerry Is it healthy to pour hot liquid into a styrofoam cup? If not, nobody deserves a styrofoam cup 🙂
Quibbles aside, this focus on position is out of place in communities. It only makes sense to community misfits to dwell on position, and even they just might be better off getting rid of the impediments that hold them back from fitting into one of the communities to which they have natural affinity.
Are studios different from VC's funding startups for a stake in them? Paying for infrastructure and sales. Absorbing losses of failed albums. I think most budding musicians are looking to make big money, and could use studio sales machinery.
For artists-at-heart satisfied with word-of-mouth publicity, studios aren't unavoidable in the digital age.

I'm thinking of g0v.asia in Taiwan too, and their tools like vTaiwan:

This instance might be their work, but I can't read Chinese, so I'm not sure:

@poga ?
@thezerobit @coderCyclist greetings, I am new to #Prolog; it makes me wonder about the bigger hype #Lisp has had, actually.
I too am on SWI-Prolog as it seems comprehensive, but https://ciao-lang.org looks like a great effort over and above Prolog too.
Do you think Prolog is suited for building better software for personal computing? Simple-for-Prolog things like configuration of apps and desktops, but also photo/video galleries, personal notes/wikis/bookmarks ... self-hosted social networking, etc.
