@PhenomX6 @futurebird @ink8

"despite ActivityPub's design flaws in that regard)."

This is a feature :) AP is #openweb and #4opens project. The talk about privacy is obviously a "white lie" on the part of the mastodon Devs.

It's always been a "white lie".

Turns out the football guy did have a cardiac arrest at 24.

I think we all know what caused it.

@lakelady Yup, things in the #Fediverse are patchwork and threadbare because each app specialized in certain things. Mastodon specializes in microblogs (short messages, some instsnces have 500 characters, some 1000, some more; depends on the SysAdmin), Pixelfed specializes in images, Funkwhale in audio. But Friendica is more general purpose, it deals well with long-form text, images, and maybe even audio. If you join a Friendica instance you might find it easier to do it all.

@atomicpoet

@vazub as a jaded C++ slinger, as an interface doesn't seem much of a minus. The devs themselves have never seemed to be overly class-oriented, e.g. their new network API in beta is said to be all in only on the engineering features of C++17. It looks like you would like a non-C++ statically-compiled language suited to application development. I am not sure if is, I'd only fancy implementing internals in it. What other kind of language?
@ottona

@millihertz well, what We™ Need™ is in place of 'rio' on (speaking as a fan - I don't dabble in OS'es unless I have to, and it is getting to that point with desktop ).

@oubiwann heh, slack is where information goes to die, even if you are not running the free tier 😂.

I checked GitHub and tried to get it running in a few ways but none of them worked (yet).

But! If I somehow succeed, perhaps I'll have a first contribution to docs to make :possum_happy:

There are two types of people who don't trust computers. Those who know nothing about them and those who know too much.

@jauntywunderkind420 @sam actually doing almost all protocols with the overhead of HTTP is a pretty bad habbit modern webdevs introduced...

@t54r4n1 @cloy I have been running instances here for over five years and not once have I wanted a "tool" like this.

This is a solution looking for a problem.

@cloy the fact that you are only considering feedback that includes the implicit right for you to continue to go down this road tells me everything I need to know about your plans. This is a shit idea. Opt-out only indexing is bullshit. Knock it off.

@mikemccaffrey @cloy @aurynn @ada Mastodon isn't the protocol. Merely one application for using ActivityPub. The ActivityPub spec mentions that spam and abuse will eventually be a problem and recommends having some sort of filtering for that... but does not specify any.

Viewing the fediverse from the lense of "how Mastodon works" will lead to problems: We should start encouraging safer data security and privacy choices now, not later.

@shaman ending world hunger is not a complex problem. Livestock feed and sugar make the most demands on agricultural land. Meat-eating is a leftover of the hunter-gatherer phase; you better hunt if you want to eat meat, instead of feeding foodgrain to chicken. And there is no need for sugar in food when our stomachs break down starch for the same purpose.

@flexghost I’m not going to participate in twitter toxicity. You can be polite while disagreeing. If you don’t understand my point, politely ask. If you disagree, politely provide a refutation or alternative.

@defcfun hi there. Interesting profile.

I went back to -based systems after a little period on ; I really appreciated USE flags but could never predict what an update would do.

I also saw a boost of a release; I didn't know it was still being developed! Personally, I have gone from being a fan of to actually learning (with ) instead.

Also a big fan, which is how I ended up at Prolog actually.

Who is shipping updates to @fdroidorg the day after boxing day? You've got to admire the commitment.

#FDroid #security

@rodhilton Fellow I know works in transportation and says Musk has been a running joke in those circles for years. Otoh, the companies he’s the face of have many capable, even exceptional, employees. As usual, the success of the enterprise is dependent on the workers but an individual gets the lion’s share of the credit. Great Man Theory dominates our culture.

I love zero-indexing so much. I'm probably its number one fan

Happy northern winter solstice festival, adapted for Christianity by the Romans, and imported to Aotearoa to be celebrated just after the summer solstice #NZTwits! Hmm, just doesn't have the same ring to it as merry christmas 😁 Seasons greetings everyone!
