Racists defacing bilingual road signs in indigenous languages is annoying. But ultimately I think it serves our cause more than theirs. "Respectable" white folks may not care about decolonization, but they're passionately against vandalism of public property.
Boss: why is this service using IPv6?
Me: I just wanted to use IPv6 once in my career for a production service. Seems sad people did all that work for nothing.
Boss: 😑
#networking #ipv6 #infrastructure
Developers: remember how you collectively decided that the WWW should be “mobile-first”? Well, do that with IPv6. PLEASE. #ipv6 #networking
Me: Could you please fix this #IPv6 thing?
Vendor: But nobody's using that.
Me: Hi, I'm nobody.
@jonatan
Cool! Is your "NAT64" server also connected to the public Internet via a "IPv6 capable" ISP?
And do your devices use stable IPs? Likely not, even if they derive it from the MAC ID since e.g. Android randomizes it?
Asking, to see if an IPv6 address can be connected to from outside. With all the chaos that can ensue ;-) ... depending on ISP allowing incoming requests on the downlink, software, etc.
@Chaft
ok, #haikuos all installed. Seriously impressed with how well it runs. WiFi worked perfectly.
Brings back memories of the BeOS demo disk on my Mac 8600.
I wanted to test this #fediverse thing out, so I installed #epicyon on a 20-year old Dell #computer running #Debian, that was ready for recycling, & was able to post, follow, interact with my #mastodon account. Now it's connected to millions of people
Epicyon's a fediverse server suitable for #selfhosting a small number of accounts on low power systems
If interested, more about Epicyon and the #Libserver projects below
( developer: @bob )
Today's the day I listened to the little voice in my head that advised me not to force the Middleton BIOS upgrade on my #thinkpad without a battery. Instead, install #haikuos and enjoy the weekend.
Trying the 32-bit version now for BeOS compatibility.
Is it still true that you need to worry about 4K pagesize alignment on SSDs?
@strypey sorry, how does connecting with other networks relate to moving services with connections intact?
#XMPP has #XEP, for servers to specify what features they support. Unless AP servers start enforcing that supported #FEP s be specified, you don't know that a new kid (bully?) on the block will both federate and support account portability (or when they stop supporting something).
What the #FreeSoftware movement doesn't need is people constantly kicking down at people. There seems to be alot of that recently (again, but it has been going on for 40 years), specially against the @fsf and the #GNU project. Thankfully, both the #GNU project and FSF are resilient against these types of attacks, but it sure causes those of us that work and volunteer our time to sorta get fed up. #SoftwareFreedomOrBust
@alex well, not everybody designed that loosely :-)

For years now, #Hubzilla has been Mastodon+Lemmy+Pixelfed ... with account portability ... and account-level and post-level moderation (spam protection)

"computer science is an academic field, and not a professional one."
This part right here.
Managers who don't value care and rigour, only value velocity and box ticking, are a big reason for every failure I've seen.
@linear the doctrine of "#Christian discovery"?
ah yes, "monkfruit", the plant with the scientific name siraitia grosvenorii, named after its discoverer, Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor, who discovered it for the first time, prior to which nobody had previously discovered it, being cultivated in china by chinese people, who had not, in fact, discovered it
