I have a question to #cryptography experts: what do you have to take into account when you evaluate strength of a hashing function? Is it possible to calculate it automatically by just taking parameters like output length and average computation time in comparison to other algorithms?

@anedroid The most important properties are more like what @kuba described, and they have to be proven mathematically. It's not really feasible to do this automatically.

The output length is important, but it's usually trivial to change compared to other aspects of the algorithm.
