We just released a HUGE mosaic of the so-called Running Chicken #Nebula: 1.5 billion pixels full of young stars and glowing hydrogen gas. The mosaic comprises data acquired with the VLT Survey #Telescope at ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile

What is the VLT survey telescope? One of the auxiliary ones or did one of the VLT get new optics?
@tobychev It's a 2.6 m telescope dedicated to wide-field surveys of the southern sky. It's located on the same summit as the VLT. The VLT often does detailed follow-up observations of targets observed with the VST, but VST does a lot of survey science on its own too. https://www.eso.org/public/teles-instr/paranal-observatory/surveytelescopes/vst/
