I was there was the original OGL was created. I know first hand how hard those drafting it tried to sincerely make it so that it would last forever and would never screw over anyone that used it. So when we decided to create a Cypher System open license with the same goals, of course we used the OGL as a model. And now after two days of potential WotC shenanigans, people are looking at our open license as though it's dodgy. Sigh.

I like how Fergie starts the bridge in "Boom Boom Pow" with an exhortation to "people in the place", rather than just "the club". Perhaps you're in a Kia dealership! Or an underground ferret neurosurgery parlor! Truly a pioneer of inclusive language. 🙏

This close to uninstalling Snapchat. Just the worst social media imaginable

Last isthmus I gave you my chart
the very next day
you sank to your grave
This year
a ghost ship appears
you turned into something spectral

Rust doesn’t make your application fast. But if your Rust application is slow it’s not the language’s fault. I feel like this needs to be emphasised with all the “blazingly fast” apps out there. Rust makes it easier than ever before to write fast software, but it’s still hard.

@mrvapor I'd guess small instances run by lone volunteers will be more compliant than a big corporation with a legal team

There’s a type of guy that thinks nothing can be funny except if it’s racist or sexist, and comment sections are full of them

@bjarne I’ve heard talk of hydrogen, which is promising, but can only be stored for short periods of time. The economics seem to not work out for anything at the scale we need it. At least so far.

I have thought about whether nuclear waste could be used for heating in winter (since we refuse to build reactors that can use it), but somehow that sounds like it won’t work/happen

Do flat earthers think all the planets are flat or just earth?

Wind and solar are well and good, but I am yet to see a country with low-carbon electricity that don't rely primarily on hydroelectric or nuclear power. I feel like we have a big "we'll cross that bridge when we get there" attitude about this. Long-distance electricity transmission is held up by nimbys. Batteries alone can't fill the gap from hours without electricity generation. And solar doesn't really work in the winter. It feels like there's really no plan for what we're gonna do here

@notkavi Elon is correct here, I think. He deserves dunk, but this post in particular seems fine. I'm probably missing some context

@thor Hm... I guess you could remove your least favorite songs? Anyway, kinda sucks

@thor The limit should have been like 10000 followers. 240 is nothing. Bad product decision

RT @DrBeauBeaumont
I think the photo’s just been taken from quite close up, to be honest with you.

i’m not overreacting when i say i’d either 1) quit my job or 2) burn the building down

I pry open the crab shell but instead of sweet crabmeat I find a tiny, bustling city filled with people who have my face. It tastes terrible

Me: I know panty hose are a little dated but I love how they even out my skin tone
Bank Teller: So is this not a robbery?
Me: No, It is
