@dysfun If whole organizations move over and host their own instances for their own employers, that'll add up nicely!

@kefir @lucifargundam I'm European. It's common to say '8 euro' instead of '8 euros'. So '8 dollar' looked normal enough to me. :P

@snow_gibbon

For Qoto I actually would recommend trying out the mobile web interface (and just pin that site to your home screen). The web interface is already very mobile friendly.

Qoto is a modified Mastodon server with extra features (see the About page for more info on them) and most apps are made for default Mastodon. You'd be missing out on those extra features, and chances are that some apps don't 100% work nicely with this either.

But if you really want to use an app, I've seen reports that Tusky and Fedilab work fine enough with this server. The official Mastodon app seems a bit problematic apparently.

@snow_gibbon The Fediverse already has an established userbase, so it's not like that's gonna die out.

Unlike Signal where bosses completely forget about it and still send you a whatsapp message anyway. :P

@EvertKwok Er kan beter eentje met een raspberry-smaak tussen zitten....

😋

I do love the idea behind Mastodon, run by users for users.

FFS my boss needs to learn to use Signal. 🤪

I was already clad in rainclothes like a knight in shiny armor before I decided to check my phone (Telegram and Signal are on my desktop, Whatsapp isn't). Oh, boss called in sick, and I could work from home if I wanted to. (Yes I do, I don't fancy biking through the rain. :P)

But I could've been informed an hour earlier if he used Signal which I know he's installed a few weeks ago. Would've saved me the hassle of putting my laptop in the bag and getting all dressed up. 😋

@hilarybaumann That's always been the case. I get what you're aiming at. For your own domain you usually have to do a bit more effort. In this case it'd be hosting an instance yourself.

But, like I said, there are services which can make your life easier. There are paid services specialized in hosting mastodon instances for you, and you just apply your own domain to it. :)

For most people it doesn't really matter to have their own domain, so long it's convenient for them. I've lost access to servers before and I just moved on to another one. People'll know me anyway, don't care too much about post history.

But you have all the freedom to do so. :)

@hilarybaumann Feel free to host your own instance, there are services online that's specialized in giving you an easy Mastodon hosting experience. Just ask around. :)

The only advantage of an existing active server is the community with its local timeline activity.

@antares Ah, taht's theme specific I believe. Go check your settings and choose a saner one. :D

I'm using Mastodon Default Dark I believe. I don't see that silly stuff.

@davoloid Glad you found another/an additional home. Have fun there!

@antares What bouncing little.. thing...?

Even better: What blue box?

Oh is it one of those themes? Or?

@lorihc You're allowed to say 'posting' if you want. I use both terms, whatever I simply think of first.

@lucifargundam @kefir Strangely enough that's still money better spent than paying Musk.
