“Haha lol banks use 60 year old programming languages!”

Yes, young whippersnapper, that’s because they need things to be reliable and not change all the time, the code probably has to run for another 60 years.

“Modern” devs could learn a lot from not trying chase every trendy new framework and every shiny new programming language.

@tripu Did not realize CPR in general had such a low survival.
DNR rates at some retirement homes is 98%, ie. Quaker based Kendal. The survival rate for CPR on 80-90 year olds is ~1%.

Listening to the today (by sheer coincidence!):

> _“People are going to be really mad about the , and there's going to be a decade of attempts to outlaw that. It's not just going to be the womb wars — we're going to end up with the WOMB Act: the ‘Women Only Make Babies’ Act.”_

In vitro gametogenesis (expected to happen in 5–25 years) will give #women yet another tool to increase their reproductive options. (Not so much me...

Fascinating info about the procedure:

npr.org/sections/health-shots/

TL;DR: it's not as effective as we think (~17% survival rate in best case scenarios), it may be painful for the patient and cause serious injuries (older patients are specially at risk), a significant number of patients who survive wish they hadn't received CPR, a peaceful death may be preferable to many.

Mucha gente puede pensar que el PP va a ser mejor para la economía, por ejemplo (paro, deuda, défitic). No es una idea sin fundamento.

[In vitro gametogenesis](scientificamerican.com/article) (expected to happen in 5–25 years) will give yet another tool to increase their reproductive options. (Not so much men — gay or straight — as a woman are still needed for gestation.)

Today, women don't need a committed partner, or even a one-night stand. They can freeze their eggs and postpone maternity. They can get regular eggs from a donor for free (or the best ones paying money). They can get regular sperm from a donor for free (or the best one paying money; ie pick and choose a “father” online). They alone decide about abortion. They can have their partners raise a child that is not their own. They can give birth alone, leave “name of the father” blank on the form, and nobody even bothers to find out whether there might be an unwilling father out there, or questions the merits of deciding to raise a kid without a father.

Men can't do any of that.

Talk about “reproductive rights”.

An [artificial womb](en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artifici) will the be biggest advance in favour of . It might be the great equalizer. Gestation will cease to be a burden, a risk, and a privilege exclusive to women. Imagine a single man becoming a father, and nobody even asking him “who's the mother?” or “who donated the eggs?” (Sounds heartless, sad, creepy? It's just what we have now, only with the sexes reversed.)

are not expected to arrive any time soon, though.

* [Block Out](archive.org/details/arcade_blo) (1989)
* [Prince of Persia](archive.org/details/PERSIA_VGA) (1990)
* [Stunts](archive.org/details/msdos_Stun) (1990)
* [Caveman Ninja](archive.org/details/arcade_cni) (1991)

Propongo a @ImperfectIdea, que siguió jugando después que yo (y a quien gustarán los enlaces de arriba).

OK, but that's an old problem. I'm not really concerned about humans exaggerating, flattering, trying to be funny, etc. We have tools to deal with that.

My concern is not even knowing whether there's a human on the other end, and letting some stupid software press our buttons.

It's deception. If I'm not funny or learned at all, but my (AI-generated) posts and messages project a much better image, I'm up for some painful reckoning (or I should be).

I am no Luddite. But I for one would appreciate full disclosure about who's written the content you shared with me: was it an assistant, or you yourself?

Let's find some convention about that and develop a new etiquette. Maybe some keyword at the end, a meaningful glyph at the beginning?

I find those “warm” and “friendly” and “witty” messages creepy, fake and dishonest if it wasn't the (alleged) author choosing all the words themselves. Are you really “so excited” to talk to me, and “really impressed” by the material?

Think auto birthday congrats on social media, or pre-cooked new-role congrats on LinkedIn, only to the n-th power. It's sad.

Let's call it .

@koalie

🤣

I have to say I exaggerated a bit for dramatic effect. I typically keep receipts etc of the last 12 months only. And I don't keep \*everything\* 😇

My dream in life is receiving a certified letter from the city council of some distant city, saying:

“You know you were around here for three days, during your holidays, one year ago? And you know that Saturday evening you parked for six hours and three minutes in this or that street? Well, turns out you have a parking ticket pending, plus interests. And we know there's no way you can prove TODAY that you used the parking meter. HAHAHA. You don't even remember having parked there! So, PAY!! SUBMIT!! HAHAHA!!”

And then I go to my folders, find the one for that year and month, produce the parking meter receipt that I meticulously saved (in perfect state), implacably nullifying that miserable attack against the very core of my being and emerging triumphant and glorious against all odds.
