We are very proud to share that the work we did to redesign the W3C website with @studio24 is being recognized by many awards, including the prestigious Gaady award.

Studio 24 is among the three winners that will be celebrated tonight at the LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in San Francisco, USA. Studio 24 Client Services Director Emma Lane will represent the agency at the event.

Congrats Studio 24!

@admitsWrongIfProven

That's where we techies jump in to steer the industry in the right direction and to educate users. It's difficult, but it has to be done.

@barefootstache

I have not read much about this particular initiative. But it seems to me its value is not so much about specific licenses themselves as about standardising machine-readable metadata, forming a coalition around it, and pushing for adoption end-to-end (from creation to edition to consumption). That seems cool and somewhat novel (and necessary!).

@admitsWrongIfProven

…said anyone ever about any attempt to move any corporation away from maximum profit 🙂

The same way it's always done: either by regulation (law) or by consumer choice (boycott).

In these matters, I have more confidence in the latter (governments are too stupid or too evil to regulate well).

Let's adopt an and advocate for it, gain enough traction, and companies will start suffering the reputational and/or financial costs of not following suit.

@admitsWrongIfProven

Oh, I hadn't seen that.

Yet another cock-up that would have been easily diffused by adopting .

@rauschma

I'd say if someone does that and doesn't genuinely at least tries to tidy up / clean up, they're rude and/or selfish.

Even at restaurants or shops one should at least offer to help. It's very likely that staff won't let you do it yourself, if only because they'll be faster and more efficient, and that's fine. Definitely in all other circumstances one should clean up after oneself.

For anyone worried about the authenticity of digital content (and that should be everyone):

I haven't read much about it yet, but at first glance it looks like a step in the right direction.

I actually don't get the hyperbole about “the most musical pages […] in any language” (!). I've read “Swann's Way” and the prose is beautiful, but not _that_ beautiful.

@timbray

I think generating and selling images of any kind is not a problem in itself. There might be legit use cases. eg, every World War II game is in essence a carousel of CGI depicting a war that happened, complete with actual events and historical figures, sometimes adding wild distortions of alternative developments.

What why need is to enforce standards and social norms to make sure that those images (or sound clips, or texts, or videos) always carry a footer and/or watermark, plus separate metadata, clearly indicating that they are CG. Let's make it unthinkable for a news outlet (or an individual) to use those images hiding the fact that they are not “real”.

> _“ […] is a sort of improbable Belle Époque Tolkien, the maker of a world with passports and maps and secret codes, to which many seek entry. […] The most musical pages of writing that exist in any language are those in the section of ‘Swann's Way’ called ‘Place-Names: The Name’, devoted to the romance of the adolescent Marcel and Gilberte, the daughter of Swann and Odette.”_

@bufetalmeida

(Thank you to those who boosted, to @neil for helping, to @slink for finding it, and above all to @hook for producing such a helpful document!)

, I need your help:

I'm trying to find **a _very comprehensive_ web page that I saw this summer about and copyright notices in software** (perhaps specifically in ). It seemed to be maintained by someone with a strong legal background, had lots of sections and subsections, and was intended for techies to help them understand all the ramifications and options they have.

Does that ring a bell?

Thanks!

(Perhaps I got there via some post by @neil?)

@germaaan

OK.

@germaaan
