#ambiguity

Hi there! This is ACM, the world's largest computing society. As you might have noticed, we have opened not only our official #Mastodon account but also our own #instance!
Please consider joining @mastodon.acm.org, a community for #computing researchers & practitioners to connect & exchange ideas with each other, whether you are an ACM member or not.
You can use this link to join: https://mastodon.acm.org/invite/FbXaxAHg

#ConTeXt is an advanced typesetting system based on TeX; it's the preferred system of many professional typesetters. #Pandoc can convert to ConTeXt markup with `--to=context` and generate #PDF files via ConTeXt with `--pdf-engine=context`.
The system makes it possible to generate accessible, tagged PDFs, which is otherwise difficult to do:
pandoc --pdf-engine=context -V pdfa=3a ...
ConTeXt in the fediverse: @context.
As a followup to my #introduction, I'm presenting you some of my work from the last years in the field of #HistoryOfIDeas and #GameStudies:
Next will my paper:
” ‘We’re not murderers. We just survive. The Ideological Function of Game Mechanics in Zombie Games” in: Beat Suter, René Bauer, Mela Kocher (eds.), Narrative Mechanics Strategies and Meanings in Games and Real Life, Bielefeld: Transcript 2021, 231-246. [open access]

Details like the CRT shader and the clacky keyboard sound make it a lot of fun to use. Check it out! #retrogaming #retrocomputing #emulation
“You know what? I’m over that nonsense. I’m not going to write in Word and if you want to collaborate on a paper or article with me it’s going to be in Org mode, Markdown, or even LaTeX but not some brain-dead word processor like Word.” (https://irreal.org/blog/?p=11015)
Right on the money.
In this week's Gold Machine:
A Mind Forever Voyaging's Protagonist Perry Simm's decision to remain human no matter the cost.
"Perry never wants to be anything but human because to be human is, to him, the greatest good, and worth any sacrifice."

Just curious, any #Emacs users out there, if you had a foot pedal like this one ( https://hackaday.com/2022/12/16/foot-pedal-ups-vim-productivity-brings-ergonomic-benefits/ ) what would you do with it in Emacs?
The Computer History Museum and Adobe have now publicly released the source code for PostScript, the 40 year old software underpinning for a ubiquitous “digital printing press.” Fantastic historical essay by @dcbrock here:
“The story of PostScript… is about profound changes in human literacy as well as a story of trade secrets within source code. It is a story about the importance of teams, and of geometry.”

I’m not yet convinced that I need Kudos, but @ACM thinks it’s a good idea, so let’s see… Testing it with the latest paper I wrote with @CerstinMahlow, “Academic writing and publishing beyond documents.”
Wohoo! It's getting better every day. Great news!
The @ACM #Hypertext Conference is now on #Mastodon, too. Follow them at @ht ❤️ 👍

LOLOLOL. Like 12 hours later, Twitter’s “Promotion of Alternative Social Media Platform Policy” is just gone. Along with all the tweets from Twitter Support about it that had over 100k RTs. Without a word. Just like, oh maybe they’ll all just think they dreamed it. What an absolute circus. Anyway, welcome new folks. :) #twittermigration
