If you self-host for example that's going to help a lot. But very few people do that, matrix.org is by far the largest home-server because people go for the simpler solution.

But self-hosting comes with its own set of issues (you need to keep everything up to date etc...), and will take a lot of your time.

I self host my matrix instance and join the federation , Im sure they can map all the federated crap and my ldap server is being harvested through the 3pid jazz.

but its defiantly more flexible and can achieve a more secure and desirable setup with some effort then signal can.

Also I did confirm that its not mis infomration signal is making some of the serverside code proprietary.

signal.org/blog/keeping-spam-o

"To prevent spam on Signal, we need to build this spam-battling logic in a separate server component. The interfaces to this code will be public, but the implementation will not be shared."

It's great but it requires a lot of time, costs money, and is out of reach for 99.99% of people.

Also it's not a given that it's more secure than Signal. I don't trust myself to be the best Sysadmin in the world, and I don't expect the people I talk to to be either. It's also not more flexible. Since Signal uses phone number, migrating to and from Signal is a breeze (which helped get people off WhatsApp), while migrating away from matrix is going to be much harder.
